Never heard of mods that get developers in trouble unless it's a mod that enabled cut content that was left in the game files. e.g. hot coffee for gta. But other than that, the nature of modding = devs responsibility free and cannot be sued.
Steam workshop also allows devs or valve to remove select mods they don't like hosted there for whatever reason e.g. copyright. But again, devs 100% cannot be sued for these player made content.
Well it's been happening since the 90's as far as I can remember. Doom was one of the first games I know to have to deal with obscene mods getting games and devs in trouble.
Wait... you said "never heard of it happening" then gave some examples yourself lol.
It's called a figure of speech, look up google on why the English language has it. =P
If you got proof of the doom developers being successfully sued for mods, do link them, otherwise I'm assuming that's bullcrap.
Honestly it doesn't sound like you are really interested.
It's interesting stuff to look into for anyone that's into gaming history. Marine Doom was an interesting story too. I don't know about lawsuits but I'm talking about general trouble. Something that these devs don't need. Boycotts, drama and anything that hurts sales or brings in waves of the wrong crowd.
Nah, I'm genuinely interested that's why I gave an example about how devs could be held accountable for their own content. But it's also to highlight they made the cut content that they got sued for, not the player.
Not having mods is fine, but I don't buy the reason they can be accountable for player made stuff as that is simply not true. I think this game will survive, those wanting to boycott and drama already did their best and failed, thankfully.
I already explained what I meant. I never went into legal trouble stuff. You are the only one stressing about legality issues.
That's cuz we live in societies and all of them are based on law, and currently the popular way to take down something more powerful than ourselves. And modding is not a new frontier, it's been tested over decades and held as trouble free, that's why so many indies out there jump on it without fear of getting in a fix.
I get your point. That is all that matters to you. But I think there should be more to be considered especially with this game. For example, I think something like a mod making political statements and making fun of killing civilians could be potentially really damaging to this game no matter if the devs get sued for it or not. The subject of the game is Fallujah after all. It's drama they can't afford to deal with. Time is better spend focusing on actually developing the game. If the devs had decided against mods for this reason I would have understood.
