you only get XP whenever you successfully complete the mission, i believe you may get extra xp for taking out mortars, VBIEDs, weapon caches etc, and the higher your rank, the harder the enemies. if youre the team leader anyways

XP is earned primarily from completing missions and the number of secondary objectives completed. More XP is also earned if the mission is completed faster. Maximum rank is Second Lieutenant.

Will there be a reset on ranks, or will the officer ranks be progressed eventually, ex. Second LT-Brigadier General. Currently a Gunny atm, and I would love to see maybe a reset eventually, or maybe make the ranking system work as if you lose matches or teamkill, or and negative thing could make u lose points, and also for the other side, do good things, complete missions, you would get points for promotion, and maybe if u had a outstanding performance or like an outstanding stat line ingame, then there would be a field promotion type deal. Idk something to think about, either way, love the game!!! One of my top games atm!!!

???
What rank?
I've never seen any ranking or XP count, only the two pages of AAR after a successful mission.
Is it because I only play solo, or what am I missing?

Click on your name at the main menu and hit "view career" to see statistics.

Can I earn xp by doing solo fire missions? I just completed one and got no XP, though it did register as mission completed in my mission totals.

That or, as a corporal, my xp bar barely fills up as fast compared to a private.

Yes, you can.
I've only played solo so far (with 4 completed missions), and I'm up about a quarter at 'Private First Class'.

it must only give u a tiny amount of XP compared to being in a full squad with players. I flew through PFC after just like 2-3 missions with other people.

It is a late reply, but let me add it to the thread.

Well, they sure will reset any progression in the game. Early access is just a paid beta, and almost every game I know has reset everything in the release, but normally people receive an exclusive achievement, they probably will do the same.

About the ranks, I think Second Lt. will be the maximum rank as they try to be more realistic, telling what happened in the invasion of Iraq. To be honest, no Colonel or General has taken their foots in Iraqi land with a gun in their hands, the Marines that fought in Fallujah were most Privates and Sergeants. High ranks of military are command and administrative personal, not the front line soldiers.

Also answering the main question, XP is earned only if you survive in the end of a completed mission (a successful completed mission), things you do in the mission will increase or decrease the amount of XP earned (secondary missions, weapon caches, etc increase and friendly fire decreases). To reach the Second Lt. rank it is necessary something about 160 - 165 missions.
