Saiko no sutoka nightmare mode is still being worked on its going to include 3 more maps and 3 more AI along side with other modes being slightly changed and mod support so please bear with me on this you can follow progress on my youtube channel incase you are not aware of channel. here is the link : https://www.youtube.com/c/HABUPAIN

and I am guessing there is a general lack of time, since the last tweet was made in februari, which is about the iOS release. Anyway this new project is from July, so its recent enough to know Habupain is still working on it

i dont think time was ever an issue, in one month we are completing 2 years without updates in the main game and 1 on halloween mode that wasnt realeased in halloween

People die due to covid, there are probably other issues that prevent them from continuing at a regular pace. Solo developers have a lot less routine considering game dev. Depression too consumes time.

I am certain of this for one reason:
This year Saiko no Sutoka's price increased, despite no update to the game happened or whatever; so it isn't because of content, but likely due to financial trouble. Anything this + it is being released as a separate game (read description) means a very high likelihood it will cost money. I am guessing around 5 euroes currently.

This is just added speculation that increases the likelihood of it being 'no', but still:
Shiki doesn't have any 'free' label or reference. Even steamdb doesn't have that information so either no prices were filled in or they prepped prices.

Then we should consider Ourselves glad we Bought Our Copies when we did. I got it on Steam and the IOS App Store, at the $5 Price Tag.

Habupain is making complex AI followers and complex interactable characters that unfortunately easily break script, get stuck in loop instead of having the intended dynamic feel.
His work on Shiki will be of use in the original. I don't think you should even see them as separate projects considering this.

I don't think these two developers nor their games are even closely related. Both have the theme of 'yandere' and both have a 'school setting'; that is all that they share.

In a way I think saiko no sutoka is more closely inspired by White Day or Corpse Party than it is by yanderesim; due to the horror nature and the chase scenes.

The way I see it at least is that it is not a fan game nor is it trying to compete; its its own unique thing. So, I don't think it would matter even if yandev did say stuff.

I meant that instead of making the main game, he makes something else...
