Help for a Newbie

Like most, I'm enjoying the game on my Quest 2. But wow, I must be too caught-up in the action, as I can't figure out a few things that should probably be readily apparent. Hoping some experienced players here can help.
1) how the heck do I drop bombs? I've gotten decent at dogfighting but lost for those.
2) buying planes: is it better to get More planes or concentrate on upgrading one or two planes?
3) I have been unsure about what to buy. I thought Sopwith Camel.... it was good enough for Snoopy.... but it warns about the machine gun lacking an unlock mechanism. I have no idea what that means. Is it important? I have looked at the homenetgames website and see no manual. This seems to be a trend; let the player discover for himself how to do things or what they mean.
Anyway, if someone could help with these questions it would be greatly appreciated. If there is a Strategy Guide or even Discussion, that would be good to know about also. Thanks!

I have Quest 2 version too.
1) If your plane has bombs, you drop them by grabbing bomb with your hand and just throwing overboard. Bombs are on left side.
2) Not sure which is better. I bought planes first. You can have five planes in air at same time.
3) Unlock mechanism is either fast reload by "slamming" machine gun with your hand or machine gun, that you can aim with your hand. Cant remember which one.
