What the hell? (Djedefre boss fight)
I am so unbelievably frustrated - am I not getting something? Is my game buggy? After playing the game for several hours on "intended" and finding it mostly to be too easy, yet extremely enjoyable, now I hit a brick wall with the egyptian boss. I'm already fighting him for about AN HOUR now, which should be about 50 tries so far, hearing OVER AND OVER AGAIN that I should treat him like the burning man, and NOT ONCE have I managed to even take HALF of his life.

Is this some sick joke of the developers? Is the rest of the game unfinished and they're trying to fend off players, so that they may not notice ?
What IS this?
The most viable way so far has been to cheese him, by just standing next to him and circling him, abusing his wonky movement ai. Is this intended?
Every other movement seems undoable and ends in a one-to-three-hit - kill.

Just to make it clear - I LOVED the game so far. It's really great fun! I just can't understand the decisions that must have went into this boss design, nor the lack of discussions about it here in the forum.

Gamers that get stuck on a mission/interaction within a video game have a few options on how to react. First is ranting. Second is asking for help. Third is blaming the world for ruining their life and all future enjoyment is drained because of same. Fourth is ... attack the devs themselves as evil, incompetent, sadistic, programmers with clown shoes for gloves and have accidentally coded a monstrosity that surely nobody had wanted.

Congratulations, you have successfully made it to #4.
Sadly, Steam has no achievement for same, but in your heart you will always remember this victory against evil itself.

You could click the little icon and give me an achievement. Come on, it's THAT little effort, and it would make me THAT much more happy! :-)

Seriously though - I watched a Youtube-Video of the fight and found out I was kinda right. It really seems to be a joke I didn't get - as in, you only have to get the boss down to 50 % life, and then it triggers a cutscene (which I just HOPE will include a checkpoint).

And getting only half of his health down at least seems somewhat plausible to me.

LATER EDIT:
Jup, that was it. So to everyone else who got stuck here:
1. Map your roll-movement to L-Ctrl instead of C, so that you are finally able to roll to the right.
2. Keep a length of about the middle arena ring of distance to Djedefre, and when he attacks, DO ROLL TO THE RIGHT. He then tends to really run past you, which finally gives you kind of an edge on him.
3. Don't bother with bullet time. Just roll to the right and pump him full of lead.
4. When he uses his strafe-attack (starting when he's down to 75% life): goto 3.

Hold down Q and walk around the arena gathering stakes <3

found him legit harder than the final boss fight.

I didn't cheese it :-\

All I can say is it's a pretty standard, yet difficult, boss fight with patterns and precise use of the dodge ability to avoid taking damage.

The fight can be learned with a bit of time. But it's an appalling difficulty spike to be sure.

I fully agree - after I got the roll-ability to work correctly, I must admit it was a pretty cool boss fight after all.
But with dodge and bullet-time alone it seemed nearly impossible to avoid taking damage.

Once I put together that you need to use the roll ability here I was able to beat it, the problem was I didn't use the roll AT ALL up until this point and forgot it was a thing and I kept getting stomped.

If anyone is still in need of help here, here is how I did it.

#1 - I didn't use Bullet Time at all during his 1st bar of health. I used the scripted slow-mo at the start of the fight (while James is narrating) to get in 2 hits from the rifle on his weak spot. When he charges, use the Roll to get around him. I kept rolling backwards and he closed the distance and got me, once I started going horizontal to him I was able to reliably survive. Using this method I was able to destroy his 1st bar and then stake him.

#2 - Once the 1st bar was gone, I waited until he finished his charge and then used Bullet Time while advancing on him and shooting his weak point. With a full magazine I was able to destroy his 2nd bar really quick and get him with another stake. He spawns in mobs at this point but by using Bullet Time I got his bar down without having to worry about them.

#3 - In the 2nd phase (the one with the "Closure" card), I just unloaded on him with the Uzi while doing my best to roll around him since he is vulnerable here. Just keep rolling and use everything you have here and he'll go down.

I did notice the guy who has a Youtube video of this fight has basically no resources, not sure what was going on with him but I went into this with almost full everything so ammo was a non-issue. Hope that helps anyone still getting BTFO by this guy!

Also, with love to the dev team, performance issues here make the fight harder than it has to be. The game would hitch for me during this segment, usually at the most inopportune moment possible. I turned all visual settings down and it didn't help at all. In this regard you just have to get lucky I think.

I rebound roll/slow/dive as the game started, as I do with all shooters, and definitely had to get roll to a key that would allow wasd at the same time. I can see how this fight might have been somewhat tougher if somebody hadn't done that.

Roll does see some use for dodging ranged attacks, but I can't blame someone for getting to this boss and not having used it or dive. Dive feels like it was meant for another game before the scope of the game changed.

We're still working to address the hitching, so thank you for flagging it! Always helpful to have more information, and I hope it didn't, uh, *heighten* that boss fight too terribly much.

Oh my god I just did this bossfight and YES, it's a huge difficulty spike. The game was a breeze up till this point but it was probably a solid half hour of shouting obscenities before I made it through.

That boss fight was sweet. I think I died 20+ times with out getting past his second health bar, before I decided to call it a night. I came back to it the next evening and realized I had only been trying to roll backwards which let him be facing me when the dodge roll ends and primed to attack. Rolling past him is much better, his momentum carries him further away from you and he has to spend some time turning around giving you enough time to unload your Uzi into the weak spot.

Hey man I know this comes very late but thanks a lot for the response here, I appreciate it. It was a relatively small hiccup in experience that ruled otherwise.
