Stuck in a memory

Someone PLEASE HELP! I'm probably being an idiot somehow but I can't seem to find any way out of this thing. I need to touch the memory to progress further, but there doesn't seem to be any way to jump down to it (I've explored every pixel about 87 times.) As an added bonus, the game now default dumps me into this stupid ships memory scene and there is no option to abandon it or load another save game - in other words my entire game is screwed if I can't get out of here. Please please please someone tell me I'm missing something obvious and not just screwed.
