What is the Crate of Bananas for?

You can pick them up, but the guards ignore it, I tried to take it back to the ship through the portal for the monkey, but nothing. Is it there just to be funny?

What map is this crate on and where is it exactly?

It's in the fort by the beach on Dread Vine's Cove. I believe it relates to an Easter egg that nobody has figured out yet.

In the game credits there is a line that reads '‘Wait! Where is that damned banana-loving parrot hiding now?? Last time I saw her was on Dread Vine’s Cove…’

My assumption would be that there's a parrot on the island you can give them to.
