I prefer Theresa by a mile, the other two had limited ammunition, she has infinite as long as you retrieve it. Havent played through all of D3 but only used Takuma for Kuma in ST. Really didn't like him from a gameplay perspective.
I try to swap around to grab the bonus so I've tried all my characters quite a bit and different team comp synergies. I have Afia, Toya, Yuki, Zagan, Pinkus, John.
Yuki is dumb level broken, as in very overpowered. She is also one of the funnest and less straight forward compared to someone like John.
John is, as the thread has indicated, very basic yet problematically powerful. I can honestly say he just has poor design and outside of some extreme speedrunning tactics or DLC characters is the best in the base game from what I've seen so far (and based on character info probably still even factoring the ones I've yet to acquire). He can fit in almost any mission excessively well and is overly convenient getting behind enemy lines, taking enemies out, etc. His only core weakness is dealing with multiple guards packed together that some others can deal with but this isn't a common enough situation to reduce his power level nor is this a solo game really (though he nearly can the entire thing it seems).
Afia seems to be quite unpopular, as in the worst character many seem to regard. Imo, she was on the weaker end until I tried simply solo'ing content with her in a few missions to force me to better adapt to using her flexibly. I still need to work on strategies with her Grand Blink I never used because of its 1 charge... which is an incredible skill but even without it I found she works far better than I initially gave her credit for in terms of breaching backline, assassination despite her longer attack duration, reaching multiple terrain height levels, etc. As long as there are not two guards excessively overlapped (and even then if using body trick) she can solo a lot more content than people likely realize. She is basically close to John though not quite there (her grand blink, however, might change that in some cases passing him up on some mission types). One of the biggest advantages people probably overlook is her blink does not require targeting an enemy. You can use it on terrain to travel between bushes, height levels, skip over sight cones, etc. on top of her time stop as well. I feel like she breaches the level of overpowered but not quite as severely as some, but I have strong suspicion her Grand Blink can completely change that in the right missions. A shame she cannot swim but this isn't too big of a negative for her in most maps.
Zagan is really strong and seems straight forward but is a bit more complex than he initially seems. Quite a good character. I also hate using him and find him boring. He works well with almost any team comp and is not particularly a solo character, though he can pull off some solo feats regardless but does not excel at it. Can't swim but actually impedes him more than Afia.
Pinkus is fun. Way weaker than Aiko's perma distraction and infinite map coverage mobility. However, I like his mechanics and feel he is way better designed than some like John within his niche and power level. He is quite strong, though, when used properly but compared to what some like Yuki, John, Afia can do I don't think it is problematic at all.
Toya is astoundingly balanced. He was my first unlock since I heard the plant lady was quite broken. This is a very tame but still powerful character that can solo a lot of content like others but doesn't feel to be at levels of borderline cheating/cheesing to complete content. He requires a bit more effort but can pull off some nice feats and doesn't feel underpowered.
I just got Quentin last map, and, his ability is just too... unreliable? (ex. Toya lures a guard then blinks to his KataShiro, attacks the guard then blinks back to safety. You try to use Quentin to grab the guard, but he pulls the KataShiro instead...)
This mission, i have Suleidy, Quentin, and Gaelle, none with "ranged" attacks, so I am trying new strats, and i actually like this combo a lot! You can shoot your teammates across from one dock to another past guard patrols (Gaelle cant swim), snag her with you, throw the skull to lure the guard, shoot Suleidy at them, drop a bush, clean kill, even if its in another guards dark cone since the guard and Suleidy are prone. Actually getting some use with Quentin, and Gaelle, even if Suleidy is getting all the kills.
