The game does not start

It does not start me, the screen remains black and closes. It only opens in windowed mode as if it were going to start but it doesn't.

Here's something worth noting.

I tried the REverse demo a couple weeks ago and was able to load it up, but I didn't play at the time. Still, I got into the game.

Later, I believe there was a windows update.

Next time I tried it, REverse demo was doing the exact same thing as this is now. Just a black screen, then goes away, doesn't start.

Now, for REVIII, it actually gave me a single notification the first time I tried to run it.

"You need to install the codec WMV Decoder to start the game."

Well I downloaded a full codec pack and I'm still having the same 'won't start' issue.

Actually thanks for pointing that about a Windows Update. I might geniuinely try an older build of Windows to see if it works or not.

Windows update works for me in REVERSE case, Village actually not.

I just tested if RE:Verse worked and... it doesn't. The same problem happens (black screen for 5 or 6 seconds and bam, closes). It was working for me when they first released it some weeks ago... what in the world did they do?

if you guys have msi after burner and rivaTunerStatistics close them both and try again, same thing happened to me and i found out those 2 softwares were the reason for the crash

mine was working fine like I using RTX 2060 Super, 3700x then it just run fine

At the moment there seems to be no solution to the problem.

I tried updating Nvidia drivers, Windows update, googled some recommendations for this issue that existed for past RE games and performed those, verifying integrity of files, running as administrator, etc etc.

I give up.

I have also tried everything that can be done, I have not found possible solutions online either. At the moment I am not going to warm my head. But I find it disappointing. Anyway, in the meantime I'm going to play Resident Evil 3 with Waifu Valentine

Last thing I'm doing is downloading RE3 to see if that still works, so I'm reinstalling that.

edit: Reinstalled and booted up RE3. Got the same 'WMVideo Decoder' message as the first time I tried Village, but the game continued booting and I was able to play RE3 without issue.

So, just sit and wait and hope Village isn't broken on release?
