Terrible First Impression
Hi guys,

I bought the game during the last Ubisoft sales, since I played both the previous games and it seemed to be a deal to pick up this one too for a couple of bucks.

Now, both Road to Hill 30 and Earned in Blood were not masterpieces at all, but in those years they made up for a pleasant, different experience. FPSs were all over the place back in 2004/2005, and I had a good time playing these games, which, although full of issues, gave me something different to enjoy. So i bought Hell's Highway to play the missing entry in this series and because fans claim that this is the best one.

Well, I played a couple of hours and I had an AWFUL first impression. Let's not dwell on the awful pc port, which, being a Ubisoft game, is somehow "normal"... But the game itself. Awful presentation, awfully quiet environment, awkward animations, idiotic AI, bad gunplay, and same gameplay of the previous games. I am somewhat repulsed and disgusted.

So, I wanted to ask if it's true that you guys think this is the best of the three BiA games, if yes why, and if the game gets better by playing it.

And seriously, what's wrong with Gearbox and all its ass games???

Tanks that can now be defeated by walking up to them and setting a charge....its ridiculous..

I know, but it sucks even compared to the fps of that time. At least in my opinion.

I played every single one Brothers in Arms, I can't sit here and listen that the game isn't realistic, you guys know that in order to have a gameplay "fun" we have to let go some of the realism. First of all, in a real combat situation you won't run from cover to cover in the open field, that's like, asking to be KIA, a flak gun (88mm) can't be stopped by a iron table and a bazooka team normally would carry only 6 or something rounds. We need to comprehend that BIAHH has it failures but is quite more realistic than similar games launched at the time.

As an infantry man I can perfectly see how realistic the tactics and the combat is represented in the game, which all of the 3 games nailed it.

Related to tactics cant argue as im a soldier myself, all games nailed it as you said and well. but in my case i was refering to they should have kept some of the features from the first 2 games, like melee/germans using grenades, german AI actually responding to assaults and shifting locations. they aced it then but in some features just let it go...still enjoyable game in history terms and tactics you can use.

Totaly agree with you, melee is a thing that I realy missed, especially in close quarters combat. Hope that the sequel that is coming will improve and implement new movements, tactics and other things that will make our experience as memorable as with the first games!

The last thing that I saw about BiA was in february of this year, and is a tweet from Randy Pitchford https://twitter.com/DuvalMagic/status/959350085409648640?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.eurogamer.pt%2Farticles%2F2018-02-05-novo-brothers-in-arms-continua-em-desenvolvimento raised my hopes for the next game a little bit.

i personally liked hells highway the best however the gameplay fealt better in the older ones to the extent mentioned above (i really missed mele combat) one thing that they have had spot on since the beginning is the story which i have always liked and i fealt this one really had some interesting stuff such as bakers dealing with loosing all of his men...legit in particular. It has a great story to say the least and that and the tactics have been what i really liked about this game series and they still feel pretty solid. I completely agree that the gunplay isnt very good in this game though...remember pressing the r3 key on ps3 to be able to aim down sights...absolutely terrible gunplay when out of cover. but in cover...it still wasn't great just kind of ok.
*SPOILERS*

And even the story..i mean i played it expecting a great story(following the events of the 1st two games) and then we get retarded deaths like Frankie who wanders off and just doesnt turn back even tho at some point hes being chased a couple meters away, then Baker letting him leave while inside the Asylum.... However there were some good parts in the overalls story in my opinion. In some points, namely baker being haunted by Legget´s visions about what happened during "Buying the Farm" near Carentan and his confrontation with Sam after he tells everyone what really happened,it really captured the squad´s "separation" well.

One of the scenes that gets your attention to the fullest is the "Black Friday" Mission in Veghel when the mortar hits......RIP

FPS games age very poorly - the worst of any genre, IMO. The only FPS that has really stood the test of time (again, IMO) is Half-Life 2.

Half-Life broke the barrier of time:cleanhourglass:, thanks to the awesome quantities of mods.

Medal Of Honor Pacific Assault came out in 2004, and AI both of enemies and friendlies was so much better...
