Yes, HW2 doesn't have couch coop, but Hammerwatch 1 Anniversary Edition does.

Sad decision. It was one of our fav game and even when you released HoHW it was sad…

Hammerwatch was simply perfect in couch co-op

Maybe you'll enjoy the Anniversary Edition then. It has a new campaign based on Heroes of Hammerwatch.

will the online co-op be crossplay PC-PS4 ?

Unfortunately, no.

Will there be at least AI Companions when not playing Online?

Sorry, no.

Games like this are so much better ONLINE CO-OP instead of locking all players to a single screen or worse yet, split screen.

During NES/SNES days, fine. However everything plays better when players have the freedom of exploration on your own screen without being tethered or locked in other players menus.

Given the choice, I'm glad Hammerwatch games opt for online co-op.
Will be getting this along with some friends, the demo played great!

The question is always "why not both?"

If you can do something as complex as the netcode, I can imagine that controlling 2 characters on the same screen should be doable... But I am not an expert.

I was very excited to see this game published ... until I found out that local co-op was skipped.

Time, Resources, Cost - Plenty of reasons any dev - especially indie devs would avoid having to craft, implement, and test an entire set of functions.

Could they? Probably, sure. Would it impact everything else in the game? Definitely.

Until people decide to not buy your game to play with friends since you are forcing them to buy 2 copies of it.

Since the Devs have done it in the past for similar games (seeing as the anniversary edition of hammer watch supports it), this decision appears to be more on the lazy/greedy part than being out of necessity.

An statement mentioning that they are testing how to implementing the feature would have been enough for fans of the franchise, but instead they want to test their fanbase to see if they are ok buying 2 copies of the game to play with a friend or 4 copies to make a full party.

The nature of this game is more open world with buildings, caves, delves, and various areas. Locking to a single screen would not be ideal and split screen? Mega oof. I can feel that in the few hours I played.

Again... they could, probably, sure. Would it impact everything else? Definitely.

As for buying two copies of the game, AFAIK this goes back to Game Boy needing multiple systems, the link cables, and yes, multiple copies of the game. I don't know if the campaign of 'people not buying your game' will gain much traction on something that genuinely interest them, but I do admire the thought.

Personally if the game looks fun I'm going to dive in and have the best fun I can with it. Crackshell has done killer things with Hammerwatch 1 and Heroes of Hammerwatch, so whatever they do? I'm in. Do I hope for other things with games? Of course, but this is the dev's vision. Super Mario Wonder coming out later this looks like it won't have online play... another Mario without online, again.
Unfortunately, them be the breaks.

Good that Anniversary Edition has local co-op. As for HW2, guess I'm buying a second copy for my other half.😳
