some examples, in multiplayer:
> if you join a game and have no character there, you can create one on joining.
> if you join and you have an existing character in that session, you load in as them.
> if you're host, you can load your save with your character, and all the others in case those people join back.
Unlike HOH, You cannot take a singleplayer character into a multiplayer game, nor can you take a character from one multiplayer game into another, or continue it in singleplayer.
Does this explain your issue? I'm guessing you weren't host and your character is in the hosts save?
Let's say I played multiplayer and developed a character i like. Now I want to play that character alone but cant? Or, for example, have a great character in single player and i want to use it in multiplayer with a friend, but cant? Please make it possible, that would be very nice, if you can.
edit:
Now that i think about this, i am not sure who was the host, we were experimenting and each of us trying to host, not sure who ended up being a host.
Yeah, unfortunately it seems like this system will make playing with friends very difficult. If anything, a system like this would actually make a little more sense in a roguelike/lite game, ironically. Where progress is fleeting and you're really there for the moment-to-moment gameplay. But in a game like this where progress is persistent and long-term, it feels like the old system would be even more important to have here than in the previous installments, where players are really going to want to play their character, and not a new one every time they want to play with a new person, a different friend group, on their offtime, etc.
And I understand that there is likely issues with story/quest progress. But at the same time there are ways around it that aren't too elaborate. Either have the entire sessions quest progress tied only to the host. Or, have a system where if your character has a quest available, and they haven't done it yet, they can pick it up/recieve credit for it in the hosts session. And maybe in the latter case, just make it so that joining characters have to at least be at the same point in major story events as the host in order to join. That way it'll further encourage players who are further along to go back and help their friends who aren't quite there yet.
started the other day in single play (playing on ps5), when to try out some online and had to make a new character for online mode. this is so lame. please fix
For PC this has been in the game for quite a while now, for consoles it's being worked on from last thing I heard. Also didn't hear of an ETA.
k, good to know. Thanks
