any car NewGRF completely disables all vanilla cars

I tried multiple ones, say I install Ikarus set, I have no other NewGRFs, I start a new game, build a depo and the only vehicles I have are Ikarus buses. So I can't even transport any goods because there are only buses available. All vanilla vehicles are gone. I tried validating game files and that didn't help

That;s the whole point of GRF's, they replace the old vehicle design.
If you want trucks, you will need to find a truck one.

Played a few years ago. At that time, NewGFR did not remove vanilla cars, I added 2CC buses and Ikarus - everything worked fine.

NewGRFs have never worked that way in OpenTTD. I doubt they did in TTDPatch, but my memory struggles with things that long ago.

late but, there's a setting in 2cc stuff that lets it not replace vanilla content iirc

I think you'll find that your GRF's did remove vanilla vehicles.
You said you had two of them loaded.... Do you see how that works?
