OpenTTD

OpenTTD

The greatest sim game ever made
I remember working in a pc shop back in the day and a customer introduced me to Transport Tycoon. I never fully embraced Sim City and nothing even to this day has me hooked as much as TTD.

When OpenTTD came out it allowed the game to really grow. Online gaming, downloadable assets, for a game this old its incredible. I will get this steam release just so i can proudly add it to my library.

Thanks guys.

I was introduced to TTD through the demo map with the candy setting on a single island with several circular islands around it. At the time i was maybe 8 years old when i first got into it. Back then i could go into DOS from Win95 via command prompt. i found it most intriguing as at the time i had no concept of currency to think about.

A few years later and a move up to WinXP and i was getting the TTD upgrade after getting the game from Orudge's site to keep things reasonably current and then OTTD a few years after that. There was this one map on the desert setting where you started with a half way useful train empire going with tracks and various different engines, including that tiny engine.

A lot of the stuff introduced through OTTD has been really great to use and play over the years, although i wish there were a default AI that is installed along the game, so at least that way it won't crash and have to be reloaded like a lot of the modders AI's do. I do like some of those AI's as they are a good challenge to go up against and occasionally too much of a challenge, but then it crashes and i'd end up never knowing if i would be able to catch up and get past.

Then occasionally i do play MP, watching some users build their railroad empire using 6 tracks with trains going and back and forth diagonally across a giant map and the user is raking in millions per train to turn something into another item to be shipped back and make millions more.

it's fun trying to build my own efforts to take on such a mighty colossus, starting with not even a fraction of the wealth and not even a fraction of the power.

So when it comes to Steam i look forward to playing it again and having it updated in one place. I'd like to think the the guys/girls behind this project did the right thing bringing it to steam and hope it's not too much work doing it.

So my thanks as well for the really great job the people behind OTTD did and Chris Sawyer himself for building such a masterpiece to begin with.
