If you are just starting out and don't have much money try to plan around where you will put a train station.
I like to play realistically and depending on the size of the city, 2 or even 3 train stations doing long distance travel, with 5 or 6 bus stations moving passengers around the town, as well as feeding the train stations. One of my train stations will have a bus hub for long distance bus travel to smaller towns that are not big enough for a train station.
After getting a good 4 hours session in I am noticing busing to not be profitable, I read that planes were op, but trains are the money maker for me atm.
