Nars ... 2cc ... and then some ... try them all
Are Nars and 2cc stand alone NewGRF? Or do they replace anything? I haven't really tried downloading many different GRFs because the descriptions are either too vague to know what are in them, or they might replace the base game vehicles.
I'm also mostly looking for earlier game (pre-1900s) vehicles, with a mix of both rail and very early road vehicles (Maybe even pre-1930s planes). I've seen some packs that talk about them (like Iron Horse), but not sure if they add vehicles to the game, or just replace the base game. I have also heard some interesting things about FIRS, where it completely reworks the entire industry system of the game, even adding new industry chains and station types.
The thing is, I can't really find any info for much of the various packs. There are few to no YouTube videos that have lists of "Must have" packs or reviews / showcases of any packs that add interesting content. I'm at a loss as to what packs might replace or add stuff.
I may have to try and fill that void and look into making a few reviews for some of the GRFs and post them on here, if there aren't any made yet...
I just wish there was a way to be able to get a preview of some of the GRFs via the download section, though. Or at the very least a way to get a bit more info in their descriptions about what is included in the GRFs. I'm guessing that 2CC stands for "Two Company Color"? Does that mean that you can have two-tone paint schemes for vehicles?
Also, I LOVE your profile picture! I used to play Golden Sun a ton back in the day! I really enjoyed the storyline and characters (When Avatar:TLA first came out, I was so excited and thought they based the show around GS, which came out a few years before, lol). Of the two, I couldn't decide which one was coolest: Issac or Felix (as well as Ragnarok VS. Odyssey). I haven't played Dark Dawn yet, but hope to eventually.
With how Nintendo seems to be bringing back some of the (modern) classic I.Ps, I really hope they bring back the Golden Sun franchise, or maybe even remaster it like they are with the Advance Wars 1 & 2: Re-Boot Camp Edition they are making for the Switch.
There are a few GRF's that have very early vehicles, like horse drawn carriages, and very early steam trucks. I think Iron Horse completely replaces all vehicles, and introduces new ones. A lot og the GRFs are like that, as the old vehicles can conflict with speed limitations and maintenance costs of the new ones.
I don't think you'll find any video on a "must have", as the game has so many different GRFs and people have varied tastes.
The links are bottom right of the screen where you select and download the GRF's.
Awesome! Thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely check those out, especially the 2CC one.
Something else I have also wondered (but I think I might already know the answer to), can you use different GRF in vanilla Multiplayer games that don't require them? Or do both parties require the GRF? (i.e. Host doesn't have the 2CC GRF, but Guest does, Does the host need to have 2CC it and enabled as well?)
Also, is there a way to uninstall GRF after you install them if they don't turn out the way you thought they would? I've only got a few GRFs downloaded right now, and they are just some new music, base graphics, and a few A.I. to play against during single player games. I noticed that I wasn't able to uncheck the mark or uninstall them through the Online Content menu, but maybe I was missing something. Are you able to do it through that menu?
I'm really sorry for all the questions. I usually like to mod some of my games to add or change stuff, but those games are usually newer and have a dedicated mod hub that does all the hard work for you. The way OTTD does it is completely new to me. lol
(Ironically, I was born around the same time the original TTD came out, but never played it. I grow up playing RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 on an old Gateway in the 90s, though, but never knew much about how computer coding worked. And I still don't. XD )
