Create a new server

Greetings, i would like to create a server, where i can play and a friend should join me.
The Server is shown up in the multiplayer list. but "offline" - do i have to turn my game online? so he could join me?

If you cannot host a server for whatever reason, there are server hosting services that provide OpenTTD dedicated servers as well.

So to start a dedicated server, all you have to do is open the local files of openttd (which are accessible though steam via "browse local files") and make a shortcut of openttd.exe . Then you have to go into properties by right clicking the file and choosing "properties" (very important that you do this in the file manager not desktop, also a common mistake is to just right click it, you must select the file then right click to open properties). Then while in properties for the shortcut, you must go into "Shortcut" among "Security, Details, Pevious Versions, General and Compatibility". Once in the shortcut section go the line of text IN "Target" and place -D infront of the text (keep the quotation marks around the text in target, if there isnt any then dont worry about it) just make sure the "-D" has a space after the text. If all goes well then that shortcut should open "OpenTTD deticated server".
