A pinned thread that clearly has "New players" in the title. I suggest reading much more closely or many things will end up going over your head.

Click on Check Online Content in the main menu → search for "Tutorial" in the text search and download the scenario found there - the other two required files are downloaded automatically. Then simply click on "Play Scenario" in the main menu and select and start the "Beginner Tutorial" ... have Fun

This scenario was the one that taught me how to play the game back then. Highly recommended for new players.
This is how games were back in the days. :D

There isn't a section on trains, but I highly recommend learning to use them early on.

Back in the days (yes i played it back then when chris sawyer made the orginal game) games where like this. Learn it all by yourself. No help, no videos, no tutorial. Maybe an article in your favorite games magazine. Thats it. And we had a ton of fun with it.

Or.. They came with fully fleshed out technical manuals; especially, (though not exclusively), if they were released by Microprose ;p

I used to hate the original game, my friends all played it and loved it but I never figured it out.

Then 5 years later I installed it again and finally figured out how the tracks and roads worked (never figured out how they connected and that you had to drag the new roads ON the old ones to connect them =)

But after I figured that out I spent a lot of hours in the game and been playing it every now and then, and then OpenTTD came out so I switched to that and now here it is on Steam =)

You go to the pinned thread labelled "Resources for new players" and check out the manuals and tutorials that are listed in this thread. Very easy.
