Chris Sawyer's Locomotion
Looks like a knockoff of CSL, What's the real difference other than lower graphic quality?

I am still trying to figure out how do you disagree with a fact. Locmotion uses the same engine as Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 and 2, which are 2D sprite based games.

And saying it is an insult to compare Locomotion with TTD when it was the same developer, same gameplay concept, similar set of ideas and same gameplay loop is kind of weird.

And no, it wasn't trashy, it was a fun game for it's time, only that anyone can agree to disagree with you. Not how the game works in reality.

Well, it was kind of unpopular even back in the days and I can see why people didn't like it. RCT's way of laying track works very well for RCT, but for laying roads and train tracks it is... maybe a bit more clumsy than necessary? And OpenTTD has over time introduced many improvements that neither of the Chris Sawyer games had, so both of them just feel kind of dated. I'd certainly prefer "vanilla" Locomotion over "vanilla" Transport Tycoon Deluxe for a variety of reasons. But I'm not really aching to go back to either of them.

Maybe try OpenLoco :)

OpenLoco is an open-source re-implementation of Chris Sawyer's Locomotion (CSL). CSL is the spiritual successor to Transport Tycoon and OpenLoco aims to improve the game similar to how OpenTTD improved Transport Tycoon and OpenRCT2 improved RollerCoaster Tycoon.

I have but it is nowhere near OpenTTD's level of maturity. Right now I'd say the biggest improvement OpenLoco has over vanilla Loco is probably its better support for modern OSes and screen sizes.

I have high hopes for OpenLoco but it's not there yet.

Awesome, thanks!
I don't know who is the dumbest.

The idiot who made this troll thread, or the idiots who replied.

I can tell you who's the most annoying: it's the guy who doesn't even try and engage in good-faith discussion and just calls everybody else an idiot.

Someone who had actually read the thread might recognize that it has moved away from debunking OP's spurious claims after about three posts and some people did find genuinely useful information (like the existence of OpenLoco) in it.

However, you, an incredibly smart big brain person, realize that reading is for weaklings, and so is common courtesy.

OP has, at worst, wasted a few minutes of my time. You have actively insulted and belittled me with no goal but to hurt others so you can feel better about yourself. That kind of behavior is childish and absolutely pathetic.

Personally I could never get on with locomotion. I found the maps restrictive, there were a few more options than TTD, graphics were pretty much the same, but something about it never really clicked for me the way it did with TTD (and does with OpenTTD).

Damn, I've still got the original floppy disks for TT somewhere.
Thanks for the link to open loco, might give it another try after all these years,

The OP never bothered to respond so i think this thread might be closed off as it is uninformed (OP) but good replies to all those after

I prefer OpenTTD by a long shot but that's mostly because of all the quality-of-life improvements that OpenTTD implemented over TTD.
We'll probably have to agree to disagree here but I really think that going the 3D route is what made the game bad. It is about never a good idea to take a great 2D concept and try to translate it to 3D.i It is simply not the same game anymore, sometimes not even the same concept.
Someone's never played Risk of Rain 2 lol

I liked Locomotion. But I was a late kid when it came out, got it on CD. So much aspiration and excitement in the industry with good names and brands building themselves up.

Hate getting old lol! But I'm sure ^ still holds true with today's generation.

Wasnt upto par with TTD though. Still good imo.

Yeah I think so too. OpenTTD stood for Open Source Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Or at least that's what the name insinuates heavily. Especially since I believe the makers originate from tt-forums.net which was transport tycoon forums.

You can put all the official legal jargon and wishwashing over it. If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, it quacks like a duck, its a duck.

I understand the need to distance yourself from the original product. And sure, you can have the ship of theseus approach to it. But it's fair for people to still mistake OpenTTD for Transport Tycoon Deluxe. No need to jump down people's throat on that.
