Chris Sawyer's Locomotion
Looks like a knockoff of CSL, What's the real difference other than lower graphic quality?

Answer is on the store page.
OpenTTD is an unofficial open-source remake of Transport Tycoon Deluxe, which is a game by Chris Sawyer and the predecessor to "Locomotion".

Differences between Locomotion and OpenTTD include, but are not limited to: significantly better signalling, extensive modding support, significantly more control over vehicle orders and schedules, ability to run in HD or Ultra-HD, wide-screen support, and more. Also, Locomotion is a closed-source, commercial game that has not been updated in over a decade, whereas OpenTTD is a free, open-source game that receives regular updates by highly dedicated volunteer developers and has a large and active modding community.

Someone doesn't know Transport Tycoon came out first... and by the same dev.

Again: OpenTTD is not Transport Tycoon, it is not in any way affiliated with Chris Sawyer, and it does not use any code, graphics or other assets from Transport Tycoon.

You are missing the point of my post. OpenTTD is based on Transport Tycoon, that came before Locomotion. Is true is not affiliated, is true Chris Sawyer didn't work on it, but it is true that the game this one came from, even without using any line of code from the original, came before, and calling OpenTTD a "knockoff of CSL" shows ignorance on the story of these games as it is completely wrong.
Don't worry, I got your point and agree with it, but it is still important to point out that Transport Tycoon != OpenTTD

Wow... Chris Sawyer's Locomotion was a trashy game. Not only does TTD (and OpenTTD) precede it by decades but even comparing the two together is a grave insult IMHO.
Locomotion does have some real improvements over OpenTTD, like more flexible bridges/tunnels, pinion/rack railways, and, well, curves.

I prefer OpenTTD by a long shot but that's mostly because of all the quality-of-life improvements that OpenTTD implemented over TTD.

We'll probably have to agree to disagree here but I really think that going the 3D route is what made the game bad. It is about never a good idea to take a great 2D concept and try to translate it to 3D.i It is simply not the same game anymore, sometimes not even the same concept.

Yes, you can easily tell that Locomotion and Transport Tycoon aren't the same game by the fact that they have different names, visual styles and game mechanics.

Also, Train/Transport Fever has proven that the Transport Tycoon formula translates fairly well into 3D when done right - and Locomotion isn't even a 3D game, it just uses pre-rendered sprites of 3D models for certain assets to allow for more complex movement of certain in-game objects. Which is something some OpenTTD expansions, like Timberwolf's UK Trains, also do, and that is one of the best vehicle sets there is, period.

I can't talk about what I do not know (mainly, the expansion you are mentioning) but for the rest I did say upright that comparing both games is like an insult. For the rest, yes Locomotion was 3D. Like every single game of its era when everybody and their mom were trying to translate 2D games in 3D back then.
Locomotion is an isometric, sprite-based 2D game, exactly like Transport Tycoon. It's just that some (most?) of the sprites were pre-rendered from 3D.

This is not a matter of debate, it is a fact.

I'm not sure if you are going with the idea that I never played the game. I did. Not true.

But like I say, we could agree to disagree.
I do not "agree to disagree" about basic, objective facts.

Locomotion is a 2d, isometric, sprite-based game, using pre-rendered 3d models. That is a fact. You can find evidence to that on Wikipedia, in interviews with the devs, or you could ask anybody who has ever created a mod for the game, or look at the rendering logic as it was recreated in OpenLoco.
