[solved] Is the death from a Death Cake gift instant?
Long story short, I have beef with the farmer. He has a full house (spouse + 2 kids) and the stargazing hobby and so far he has taken three of my death cakes and there has been no deaths. Reading the wiki there is no reason for him to be immune to the death cake because he isn't the doctor, not a kid, not pregnant and he doesn't have the foraging hobby.

I have never given a death cake as a gift before so I'm unsure if it works right away or if my target will die come the next morning.

edit: excellent news, when i woke the next day I got the 'grim gifts' achievement pop-up and since I only gave my enemy the cake it can only be him. So to answer my question, the cake "worked" for me at the start of the new day, it wasn't instant.

You can only give 1 death cake per day and they die the next day. If you give the death cake to a main master in their occupation then the next day the new master arrive - it is convinient when you need to update your village.

My gifting of the three cakes was spread over a period of time, ended up working on making him my true enemy for the achievement while I was trying to kill him off. I think the first two cakes didn't work because I gifted them during a event day and maybe that cancelled it out, unsure but when I gifted that third cake (cake gifting was spread over a few in game weeks, not the same day) it was a regular day and the next day worked.
I gifted cakes during events and they worked the next day. Only doctors, hunters + foraging hobby persons were immune to poison. So your case is curious.

The christmas event in the town hall and the halloween event behind the gate was the two event I gifted the cake and nothing, so that's why I was so confused why he just didn't die the next day.
