First and foremost it has a lovely art style and lots to do. You'll be running around completing quests, fishing, farming, starting a family, mining, foraging, and what have you. Dye making and soap making aren't exactly brand new ideas, but there is something particularly cute about gathering flowers from the forest to make soaps to sell or use.
The pains start with a lot of missing quality of life features, such as the ability to see what's needed for cooking recipes from your inventory. You need to go home, open the cooking pot, and scroll through to hover over the recipe while time continues to tick because the cooking menu does not pause time.
Then there's the baby game from Stanley Parable. If you're not familiar, in The Stanley Parable you need to press a button every 5 seconds or else a baby dies. Fridges work on this principle in Plum Grove. You need to feed them ice from town every 2 days or else all of your ingredients start to spoil. You can't load multiple ice at a time, you just need to check every day and press the button, or else the baby dies.
There are a lot of items that just don't do anything yet. Like the Tapper will likely have a use eventually for getting Maple Syrup once Maple Trees are added to the game, but for right now it just exists. Same issue with other items like acorns, beautyberries, writing desk, ink, paper, etc.. Lots of other items have the issue that they're used in a single craft and then effectively just become useless, like hazelnuts. You'll get dozens of hazelnuts in the Fall and then use them to cook a single recipe that's so inconvenient to make you will never make it again.
As updates fill in missing features, add quality of life, and generally improve the game it'll definitely be worth picking up. Probably check back later in the year.
