I dont understand how to fish, help?

I saw the tutorial thing for fishing but when I try it, it doesnt work? Am I doing something wrong?
How do I fish?

You must follow the iine the fish leaves behind. If the line goes straight up, you press W as if you wanted to move forward. If the line turns left, you press left, and so forth.

Ah thanks. It didnt really specify, I thought it referred to my cursor

I use an Xbox 360 controller and I follow the line with the left joystick.
