New to the game, looking for tips & advice!
As the title says I'm new to the game and looking for some tips & tricks for new and inexperienced players who just started their save file. I'm about a week into my save, so the season is spring, and so far I've mostly just started clearing out all the weeds, rocks, bushes, and trees on my farm since I always tend to do that at the beginning of stardew-like games.

Is there anything I should know that would seriously benefit me in the long run if I make a habit of starting it now? Will it negatively affect the relationships I have with other villagers if I do the "insult 20 villagers" quest? Is there anything in particular I should be working towards right now that will make my life easier in the long run?

I don't need answers for literally ALL of these things, but a little direction couldn't hurt :) I fully well intend to keep playing regardless, but I thought I might save myself a little hassle if I asked for some advice on here first.

There's a Beginners Tips guide in the guide section for this game, in case that would help!

You can do the insult villagers quest with no serious long term repercussions, you'll just have a slight drop in relationships that can be fixed by a day or two of saying hello to people. I was also really wary of doing that one!

It's not a game where you can really go wrong, so anything you start doing will be building towards your family's future.

Top tips:
Talk to everyone. Friends send you free stuff!
Shake trees for wood. You'll need lots of wood, and can sell the excess
Make another drying rack/a preservative jar
Get innoculated
Get married - free labour and generational insurance

Have fun!

If you play with hunger on, it is a good idea to build a couble of drying racks. This way you wont starve to death

Thanks for the advice, y'all! I actually turned off hunger and item decay to get accustomed to how the game works so I'll try and decide if I wanna keep those on for now.

I have almost completed the first year and recently set aging to "slow". Just too many funerals.
I play with hunger, that's kinda fine if you keep an eye on rotting time, but I turned off taxes.
Also I highly recommend pushing through to get animals, otherwise the only way to earn money is constantly shaking trees.

I was pretty slow to get around to animals, but still made plenty of money farming and fishing. I think there are plenty of available routes to go.

I started playing yesterday as well, and I found that fishing can make you quite a lot of money early game. Just sell some wood to random villagers, the fishing rod is 85 gold, it's not a lot.
Many of them also have fishing quests so it's good from that viewpoint as well. What I don't know is how to get an anvil? Everything needs nails, and I don't want to keep buying them.:')

You get the anvil blueprint at crafting level 6 or through a blacksmith quest reward. You need iron bars to make nails, though, and you'll need to use those for other things too. So you're honestly best off just buying nails without worrying about it.
