Echoes of the Plum Grove

NPc death rate is a bit...extreme??
I'm at the 12th of spring and in the last few days suddenly 6 people died 3 of which were young adults. Idk that seems a bit..much??

thanks amazing please dont fix this. :lunar2019crylaughingpig::lunar2019crylaughingpig:
I love the dynamics and stories created by the disease outbreaks and deaths. Though I agree that if it happens early in spring that's a bit crippling. And also the funerals clog up the calendar beyond belief - no one could get married for weeks in my town because the calendar was full!

Yeah, new villagers will come in on ships if professions are unfilled. We'll see if we can balance diseases better but people's playthroughs are wildly different with either never getting diseases or getting a town wipe. Children spread disease but don't die from it - though they may age up while they have it. Avoiding contagious diseases or getting inoculated is important to your health.
I for example have had no problems with diseases so far. Do villagers get inoculated, seek the doctor and avoid sick villagers? If not that would be a good option to balance diseases without removing the danger.
I was just getting ready to marry mayors daughter after quite a hassle to make her and her mother like me enough and then she died with 6 other villagers overnight. i reloaded safe fro 2 nights before but they all died nonetheless
I haven't had a single disease yet, and I'm near the end of summer of my first year. I had one young adult die, she didn't look sick but was crying in her portrait for about 2 weeks and then passed away. I have no idea what of, I assume something mental rather than physical? I couldn't even find the lady at all, like she'd locked herself away or something. I kinda wish there was an epitaph at funerals that displayed what they died from.

It's wild how different peoples playthroughs are when it comes to diseases though lmao.

It's pretty interesting how you live and possibly die fast in this game. There are settings to make it more relaxed, but mostly rng? If a trade is completely wiped out, someone new will come to the island and take up the mantle though. So if you survive, no worries, but a little waiting.
There are several settings in the options section. Including turning off aging for your PC, slowing down aging in general, turning off item decay, and turning off diseases.

As for the chances of diseases, its quite random and some saves are more cursed than others. In a way I see the game (at its core without settings turned off) more like a Comfy Roguelike than a pure Farming Sim.
I had a whole town dying on me and there were consecutive funerals everyday well into 2nd week of summer.

When someone with a face full of holes suddenly appear out of nowhere around day 5 of spring I was like omg is this a horror game?? Later found out it was small pox patient zero, but I had already talked to her the next day out of curiosity. Didn't have enough to innoculate before so I just made sure to not overwork or starve, and slept early.

Few days later people were starting to drop like flies, and a lot of new faces started showing up by the 3rd week of spring. I was extremely lucky that the smiths and the carpenter bros didnt get sick. I was panicking when I keep seeing graves popping up on my calendar
I was just ending week 1 and a visiting citizen brought the town a delightful gift.. My character was feeling ill the next day so I just made her sleep and stay full and she got better. But then I had quests for some of the townies but it showed them in their houses and they were not there.... then the notifications came in the mail and HOLY cow! the funerals continue until midsummer! After that there was only one elder townie and that was the witch! I think its kinda funny.
Sorrx for resurrecting this thread, but I really wanted to share my experiences with diseases in my game (yes, I know I can turn them off!):

My first wave of smallpox (starting in summer ) wiped out almost the whole town, including my husband, and I had like 4 weeks with a funeral every day. I was kind of frustrated, but also fascinated and decided not to turn diseases off and see how it went and eventually people were replaced, had children and became my new friends.

My second wave of smallpox (starting in spring) was small and I was relieved, but then some other disease started (not sure what, probably consumption, people have blue-grey faces and look exhausted) and most of the people who didn't die from smallpox started dropping like flies from that one. Children grew up and new people arrived to fill the open jobs, but started to get sick and died within a couple of days. I don't really talk to the new people anymore since I know they're probably gone before we become friends. It's almost winter now and the disease doesn't stop, so when the ships stop coming I'll probably end up with a ghost town where only children live.
In one of the games in which I have everything activated (including diseases) I've only had a few NPCs who died of old age.
I got sick with common cold twice but I managed to recover by taking the right medicine, sleeping a lot, eating honey, fruit and vegetables and there is still no NPC who has any disease or symptoms.
And I don't think it's some bug because I created the new game after the last update.
So, at this point I'm starting to think that I've just been "lucky" so far, lol.

I think it's not a big problem to stay healthy yourself (get inoculated, use soap), but my smallpox always started with some horribly diseased tourist visiting the market on Sunday and after that the first villagers start having it and smallpoxed children still go to school and spread the disease around even more.
My first husband died from smallpox, both my children had it, my second gen husband didn't get smallpox, but has the other disease now and the children have both had smallpox and fevers. I really wish there's going to be a way to inoculate one's family or give them medicine in a future update.

I'll try to get all the achievements and then I'll start another (hopefully less diseased) playthrough.

I know, I understand you perfectly, I have 3 different game saves currently.
But I had created the last one on purpose, to have a little more difficulty with activated diseases but so far no NPC has gotten sick or died due to anything other than old age. We'll see how it goes. :D
I was watching someone's playthrough, and they lost a lot of people because - when the ship came to town, they didn't notice one of the NPC's was sick with consumption. They talked to that individual, didn't realize at first he caught the disease, and everyone he talked to after that also caught the disease. Once he found out he was sick, he got the cure from the doc in town, but it was too late for the NPC's he talked to while sick, they died fast. My thoughts are that some players don't interact with the ships that come to town as often, while others talk everyone up. If you aren't paying attention to the NPC faces your town could be in trouble.
i have four soapmakers and use soap every day to prevent spreading an disease when I talk to a villager or the ship captain. Wasn't any good for my husband, I went to a nice night outing with the coven , only to come back to a letter inviting me to his funeral
I turned off the fishing mini game and set aging at slow. Makes for a more cozier game, More time to befriend NPCs. Although I did have Rose pass my first summer there aren’t funerals and wedding every day.
