It's wild how different peoples playthroughs are when it comes to diseases though lmao.
As for the chances of diseases, its quite random and some saves are more cursed than others. In a way I see the game (at its core without settings turned off) more like a Comfy Roguelike than a pure Farming Sim.
When someone with a face full of holes suddenly appear out of nowhere around day 5 of spring I was like omg is this a horror game?? Later found out it was small pox patient zero, but I had already talked to her the next day out of curiosity. Didn't have enough to innoculate before so I just made sure to not overwork or starve, and slept early.
Few days later people were starting to drop like flies, and a lot of new faces started showing up by the 3rd week of spring. I was extremely lucky that the smiths and the carpenter bros didnt get sick. I was panicking when I keep seeing graves popping up on my calendar
My first wave of smallpox (starting in summer ) wiped out almost the whole town, including my husband, and I had like 4 weeks with a funeral every day. I was kind of frustrated, but also fascinated and decided not to turn diseases off and see how it went and eventually people were replaced, had children and became my new friends.
My second wave of smallpox (starting in spring) was small and I was relieved, but then some other disease started (not sure what, probably consumption, people have blue-grey faces and look exhausted) and most of the people who didn't die from smallpox started dropping like flies from that one. Children grew up and new people arrived to fill the open jobs, but started to get sick and died within a couple of days. I don't really talk to the new people anymore since I know they're probably gone before we become friends. It's almost winter now and the disease doesn't stop, so when the ships stop coming I'll probably end up with a ghost town where only children live.
I got sick with common cold twice but I managed to recover by taking the right medicine, sleeping a lot, eating honey, fruit and vegetables and there is still no NPC who has any disease or symptoms.
And I don't think it's some bug because I created the new game after the last update.
So, at this point I'm starting to think that I've just been "lucky" so far, lol.
I think it's not a big problem to stay healthy yourself (get inoculated, use soap), but my smallpox always started with some horribly diseased tourist visiting the market on Sunday and after that the first villagers start having it and smallpoxed children still go to school and spread the disease around even more.
My first husband died from smallpox, both my children had it, my second gen husband didn't get smallpox, but has the other disease now and the children have both had smallpox and fevers. I really wish there's going to be a way to inoculate one's family or give them medicine in a future update.
I'll try to get all the achievements and then I'll start another (hopefully less diseased) playthrough.
I know, I understand you perfectly, I have 3 different game saves currently.
But I had created the last one on purpose, to have a little more difficulty with activated diseases but so far no NPC has gotten sick or died due to anything other than old age. We'll see how it goes. :D
