NPc death rate is a bit...extreme??
I'm at the 12th of spring and in the last few days suddenly 6 people died 3 of which were young adults. Idk that seems a bit..much??

You can change how fast people age in the settings, I noticed the default setting is 'fast', so if they're dying of old age that might be the reason. You can also turn it off entirely (same for diseases)

My entire town is dead but the children.. is this normal? Will people be replaced? The Mayor died first and I havent paid taxes since. The blacksmith and his son are dead, I can't buy tools lol wtf do I do?

I ended up turning off diseases because on the 8th day of spring my character and most of the adults had Consumption, which can only be cured with 500 gold pills (which only have a 20% chance of working). Once I turned it off people have still died but a lot less. I think they need to nerf diseases as its ridiculous that all needed NPCs can just die within the first two weeks of the game starting.

I don't mind the NPCs dying so fast tbh, my issue is how the resources become unavailable. I noticed my Mayor did eventually get replaced by his wife. So will my blacksmith get replaced? I love this mechanic but not being able to use tools for DAYS makes the game a bit boring and annoying.

Hey I asked your question on the discord. and one of the developers replied with this

"They will be replaced by new villagers that come onto the island, or by other villagers on the island. It usually takes a day or 2 to allow for this"

I play with normal aging on and only one person have died yet.

Yeah, new villagers will come in on ships if professions are unfilled. We'll see if we can balance diseases better but people's playthroughs are wildly different with either never getting diseases or getting a town wipe. Children spread disease but don't die from it - though they may age up while they have it. Avoiding contagious diseases or getting inoculated is important to your health.

Would love a future feature where we can encourage villagers to get inoculated or pay for then to get inoculated or buy them medicine.

Hahaha, same. 12th of Spring, my character has imminent death. And I just got invited to like 7 funerals at the same time xD

TBH this makes for awesome stories.

I came into that town and thought i'd get close to the mayors daughter, went to her everyday, talking, giving flowers and stuff (my side hustle was the fisherlady rose). Then suddenly Rose became Patient Zero for smallpox and spread it everywhere including me, which caused the whole mayor family except for the kid, as well as some older folk and the smith to be wiped out...

The fact that my side hustle was the reason my main target and her family died is hilarious in its own way.

Nontheless i also think some tweaking to this would be nice ^^

It's crazy how different everyone's stuff is. Maybe because I turned aging to slow, but I haven't seen a single disease or death yet. I've gotten sick and gotten food poisoning, but that's it, and I'm on Spring 19.

Right, I haven't either. But I've also been playing very cautiously.
When 14 of the npcs died to smallpox on spring, it was a very interesting experience. I got it too but as soon as i got it diagnosed, i took the vaccine and prayed for the best LMAO
It was surreal seeing more and more townfolks that i stopped everytime to talk with their faces full of red dots and it got me wondering who would survive or not, and if my save would end bc i didnt have a family yet.
In the aftermath, my calendar was full of tombs, but i found the sudden influx of invitations to the funerals so funny i could not even be sad or mad.
I did put the mourning walk and pokerface tho. Also the villager i wanted to marry died lmao that was sad.
The infernal hardcore mode of this game should be that children could die from sickness too XD

Haha, I got Consumption on day 7 or 8. Couldn't afford the medicine, eat well and slept well like the doc told me to. But that wasn't enough. 7 other npc's died aswell. And me on day 12. With no kids. So on towards a new game. It definitly a new experience, which I love!

It's pretty interesting how you live and possibly die fast in this game. There are settings to make it more relaxed, but mostly rng? If a trade is completely wiped out, someone new will come to the island and take up the mantle though. So if you survive, no worries, but a little waiting.
