Placing Items on Rugs & Villager Marriage
It would be really nice if we could place items on top of rugs and furniture like tables and dressers. It would also be nice if villagers only married other villagers based on their listed sexuality or if we could have some sort of option to "bless a marriage" - I don't know, I am just giving options, the point being that the random marriages that spawn are a little out of control.

Marriage is randomly assigned at midnight to two singles, there's no such thing as "their listed sexuality" (like in The Sims), it doesn't even matter if they have any friendship with each other. I got a wedding invitation for my own daughter and some random girl and when I reloaded a previous save to stop the marriage and then started playing as the daughter, they didn't even know each other,

Furniture on rugs would be super nice!
The marriage system, whether the devs intended it or not, feels entirely broken to me. Since the NPCs don’t even have friendships with each other, it’s empty and randomized. Each night I just reload if Jack and James get together instead of Jack and Rose, but it’s disheartening that we don’t have any say over the NPC generations when it’s advertised as a generational game. I like playing matchmaker and so far I’ve paired up every villager and even the children for when they grow up, only it’s going to be a hassle just reloading again and again trying to make them all wind up together how I want.

I do wish there was an option to enable or disable homosexual marriage seeing as many people were drawn in by this game due to its realistic and historical charm. I’d love a “realism mode” where there aren’t any rainbow or midnight goats, no homosexual marriages or transgender characters, you could trap and hunt the wild animals instead of petting them, the witch is viewed with much more hostility and could even be exiled or burned (depending how dark they want to go) if the friendship bar with her hits the bottom, and maybe even the mermaids get a reskin to make them not so Ariel-like and instead looked like terrifying deep sea creatures. Cozy and uncozy modes would be fascinating and so much fun to switch from.

And yes we definitely need rugs to go under furniture and smaller furniture to be placed on top of bigger furniture.

I never thought to just reload when an unwanted marriage happens - I'll give that a try I guess until the devs come up with a better system.

I think you can reload for a lot of things. I got the advice to save before a proposal since it's also kind of random if your date says yes or no.

It seems it's influenced by the ring quality?
