How do I know how much I have?

Top right on the pet section, the page that shows you the expedition stats.

It's a bit awkward since, while you do earn the candy in expeditions, you need to be on the normal pets tab in order to actually promote the pets. Fortunately, if you click the promote button, it'll also show the relevant currency right above the confirmation prompt.

Yes it shows you what you need, but I feel it should also show you how much you have as well. or maybe both should be shown in the upper right at the same time.

My bad, I did not see that number. It blended it with the background. Probably should have been inside the popup box.

The problem as I see it is that you do not get to see all of the information at once, or choose which one you want to actually use. I currently have 12M potato skins and 1,431 space candy. I can only see one of them at a time. In the Pets screen, there is only one new button to spend both currencies, and I don't get to choose which one to use - it's potato skins or nothing.

What's the use of adding two new currencies if you don't get to actually choose how to use them?

Potato skins are earned from potato kills and are used for pets that you get from potato kills. Space candy is earned from expeditions and is used for pets that you get from expeditions.
