The path challenges force you to play a specific class: having leveled every classes make it easier to earn experience and progress.
Every so often, Ill do a quick run on the Farmer, Smasher, and Hoer classes to pop their max level up so that I have more skill points to spend on my main runs with the other 3 classes. I'll usually prioritize getting larva on those runs (the Farmer, Smasher, and Hoer ones).
Hope this helps. A bit of this may be over your head, but will make more sense the deeper you get into the game.
