A horde mechanic would be nice
I really like playing this type of games for the long haul. But besides clearing the military base, which also isnt that hard in the end, there isnt that much engaging stuff to do. So I think a horde mechanic would be a nice engame challenge.

So my idea was of a periodically occuring horde, that travels through the map over some turns. Maybe for the purpose of a horde, instead of your typical set number of map entrances, they could enter from all border tiles. For the most part your main way of dealing with it would be running, but as a lategame challenge it would be fun trying to fight it.

Another thing I would like would be actually building up a base, where you could lead survivors you find and then keep it stocked with items to provide for them. Survivors would also passively make something (like they went on a scavenger hunt while you were away) and protect the base. Again something to work towards in longer games.

In a turn-based game, conceptually it might be cool, but I fear in actual gameplay a horde might be tedious to deal with.

I do agree with the idea of building up a base - I think setting up your own fortified house by collecting survivors, stockpiling food and resources, building defenses, etc., would be a good alternate ending to work toward.

I support both these ideas. I agree with sirfalstaff, idk how WELL a horde mechanic would work, but you're right in that after you get most of the map unlocked, it's pretty tame.

Definitely would love the base building and survivor saving idea. I don't mind how it is, now, with just taking over a place and using it, but even then it would be cool to build things, like more cabinets, or a couch or any furniture that's currently in the game. But, yeah, full base building and survivor rescue would be sweet. Good ideas

Yeah I play with instant zombie movement so I didnt really account for people playing without it. Even then you have areas where zombies fill the screen already. Like near terminu, marina, army base etc. Those areas are bigger so it feels slightly more spaced, but if you use listening skill on night watch guard, you get numbers over 100. So the game already has that in game.

Just fill those numbers on a smaller map and you get a pretty scary horde.
