Where can I find fuel?

Bought this game few days ago. Loving it so far.

How can I do it for getting some fuel? Gas stations generators will not work, so I cannot get fuel from the machines. And for making generators work I need... fuel! All cars and other things which use fuel are always empty. By the way, what's the point on using your fuel in gas station generators to generate fuel? Wouldn't it be better to use it directly for the car? What am I missing?

fortified houses have a 'request help' option that gives you 1 gas can full of fuel. just do like 1 mission for them, and you should have enough trust to request it. fuel actually isn't all that rare.. most cars have a small amount in the tank, enough to power a generator for 2-3 turns. it's the gas cans that are pretty rare imo.

you'll want gas stations powered because it turns on the pumps.. and that gives infinite fuel.

As Tokmol stated, you use a small amount of gas to turn the gas station generator on, which then lets you fill as many fuel tanks as you want (I believe even directly fill a car next to a gas pump too. The best thing early on is to craft a fuel syphon/pump to suck out of any cars you find, but finding gas cans is hit or miss (best luck in gas and fire stations, and hardware stores for me).

Honestly, I've played through almost 10 full games now, and getting fuel is usually not an issue. Cool thing is starting with a Driver (have to unlock the job by wining a few times). or recruiting an NPC who is a driver, let's you see ALL the stations and store locations on the map. HUGE help.
