Farmer class is horrible, needs to start with seeds
I enjoy trying out various classes to try different play styles. I've been playing the farmer, banging my head against the wall trying to make it work, but it just doesn't work, it's a horribly weak class. My strategy to try to use the class perks is to farm at a park, and trade the food to a fortified trader for the rep victory. Sure I could dash to the Terminus instead, no problem, but if I'm going to do that, then there is zero reason to use the farmer, this class has nothing to help with that strategy.

Why is it so weak? Well what do you need in order to make this farmer strat work? You need to find: a park, seeds, a trader that is near the park, or add a car to the list, with a gas station close enough to the park and trader to make the car viable. And ofc you also need pans and fire starters etc etc. The problem is, after about 5 attempts, I cannot find both the park and a trader that are within a reasonable distance of each other, or a park plus car plus gas station plus trader at a distance. Or even if I find all of those things, I scour the map for 30 days without finding a single seed. Yeah. The stars have to all align perfectly to make this happen. Ironically, on all 5 breakthroughs on this class, the hardest part of all this so far has been hunting down the seeds.

It's great that the class starts with a rake, cool, but it needs a buff where it starts with, say, 10 seeds, or where the RNG loot table favors finding seeds/gardens more frequently. Let's be honest, an excess of seeds will not EVER make the class surpass the soldier or student in terms of overall power, but would make the class at least fun to play.

I hate spending 30 days in game, trying to play a farming strat, but never getting a chance to even start a single farm. Why the F am I even playing this class in the first place if I can't use the class perks???

Yeah I'm salty at this point if you can't tell.

I don't disagree that the farmer is a weak occupation.
I just wanted to share something I noticed. I think you only get seeds if you harvest vegetables when they are fully mature. If you harvest early (i.e. when they are less than 100%), I think you obtain the vegetables, but not seeds.

If you find vegetables growing early in the game, it can be worth marking the location and coming back to harvest them later.

Current patch farming is way too slow, making farmers unable to shine:
Growing speed too slow, fertilizer too expensive compare to fishing bait

Compare to chefs, which abilities are also related to satiety, they halve AP used in cooking, double dishes result, boost status time for all cooked dishes. You will found farmers are over all worse than chefs, just because farms are uncommon, and gardening is not an early game option.

Hopefully DEVS could adjust farmers to become more unique in farming:
-If they could use AP caring crops to boost grow rate, per day I guess
-Whenever they harvest / plant seeds, the crops will gain a status boost, which can further cooked in the other meals (E.G. meatballs could be further used in pasta/fried rice, they keep the STR boost in the dishes)
-They could find seeds / fertilizer while walking, just saying

We could only choose maximum 4 occupations in one run, currently farmer are in the bottom tier surely.

Yeah agreed. I just completed a run with cook using the same strat mentioned in my original comment. Found a park, fished a lot, and incidentally was able to make good use of a few farms on this run too. The cook's traits make the food super valuable to the traders, so yeah it's def a better class all around than the farmer.

I would honestly still enjoy doing a run or two with the farmer just for the hell of it, if they made it so that you could reliably get a few crops going really early, like giving you seeds to start with. That would help a lot. Would still be worse than the cook, but a fun alternative.

Ah interesting, I hadn't noticed that. Thanks for the tip, makes sense.

Yeah, agreed. Played farmer character run as of now, it took me like 5 runs on easy difficulties just to get a decent run. Farmer really need to start with at least 2 seeds and it needs to be lettuce seeds, cause lettuce is the most easiest crop to cook that does not really need a fire and pot/pan (Make salad).

From 5 runs i also found that finding seeds is the main run ender (I played on permadeath), finding farm is also very very unlikely, usually found it too late like 6 or 7 location away from the spawn location. Second run ender is the abysmal combat capabilities of the Farmer class itself (scrounging weapon is hard) and wooden spear are simply too little use without adding Dexterity stats which if you add takes away from Combat/Strength stats and the Third one is water/fire starter item.

Yeah the class is basically the equivalent of choosing no class at all. On my runs, I couldn't even find any farms at all to get seeds from, even after surviving like 20 days and exploring half the map. I know in this case that was bad RNG, but a class that requires really good RNG to even function at all is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
