crafting and survival, some helpful tips for getting started
My latest run I got deeper into the crafting system with an engineering companion so thought I would give some help to those who have just raced to Terminus without diving into the system.

The main issue of course is that recipes have to be learned from a book, engineers start with all recipes which is a big advantage.

Dexterity effects how strong the final item is, which mainly effects tools and weapons. also how fast you repair gear or how much repairs work if used on weapons/tools.

A big help getting started crafting is to find an axe as you can break open most containers. Dressers and such give planks and can give nails on occassion. Breaking open a fridge or other metal object gives metal sheets which can be broken into 3 metal scrap each or used as is for certain recipes. Also metal containers have a chance to drop wires, but fences at railroads are guaranteed if you use pliers.

like 4 baitless rat traps and 2 water barrels are enough food and water for a 3 man group to survive. Parks are of course nicer for just free resources and fishing, but traps can be placed anywhere. Even a trap or 2 placed before sleeping can mean a bit of extra meat each night on your journey to terminus making the trip much easier.

the clothing racks in a clothing store give pipes when broken with an axe. Pipes are one of the best weapons besides axes so a single axe could provide you with more than enough pipes to take out as many zombies as you need on your way to terminus.

hope this helps a bit. Crafting is very strong if you are willing to slow your trip a bit. Going from using pots and pans as makeshift weapons to a whole inventory of pipes and axes that you crafted yourself is quite an upgrade in killing power as well as not having to chance it with rotten food and disease even if disease isnt too bad most of the time.

So I could have eaten that rat, good to know. A little late now, but next time. :)

Great for any 100+ day achievement runs!

yes, you chop rats and other critters into small meat with a knife

more than that imo. A bit of crafting can make your run much easier. Rushing terminus and getting stuck with a bad map can mean death. Had a good start of a run end because I got greedy and got stuck on railroad after railroad due to a bad map spawn not having an exit on the side I was checking. My own fault for being impatient sure, but most of the time I would have been fine especially with 2.
