I'm interested but the early access scares me is this game actively updated?

You can always look on the store page at the recent/all updates. Also, it releases soon (according to the EA FAQ at the top of the store page), so you could just wait for release if scared of EA. Note that I don't own it, I was just checking out discussions to help on my decision to buy or not.

In its actual state the game is playable, very fun and addictive. Already 80 hours of play because you have different difficulty modes, different classes or challenges to try and so on.

If you looked carefully in their store page, you will find their demo. And the devs seem very active in the forum with user feedbacks. Let that observations and your own ones answer your own question.

Early Access will be over soon, with version 1.0 coming out in August according to the latest news from the developer. It is extremely playable in its current state - so much that if I was told that the current version is the finished version, I'd believe it - and has been quite playable for quite some time now...

I think so, I see the potential. What I hated was that it takes 10 hours to cross a room and open a drawer. Dunno if they changed that yet, but otherwise yes, it is a fun game. Also, with no way to kill the head, you might as well restart your run, unless they fixed that too.

early access itself shouldnt scare you. that's illogical and asinine. look at the devs who abuse it. not all devs do that.

100% worth it. I have been playing the game for a few days and as someone who has played Project Zomboid and Cataclysm: DDA, I am very impressed.

The replayability is insane. This is definitely a game I will come back to again and again.
