Co Op Invites not working

for some reason my friend and i cannot receive in game invites from each other no matter what we try and the steam invites aren't working. we have tried everything we can in regards to troubleshooting and a random was even able to join his lobby but it is not visible to me in the lobby list. we are completely stumped. has anyone else had this issue?

I am also having this issue, I can see him inviting me on steam but it will not show the invite in game. When i accept the steam invite it doesn't work. I am wondering if the game is region locked, Since he isn't in my region

So we've found that you both have to have the same download region in steam, otherwise it wont work. Hope this helps
