Can we talk about Global cheaters?
It'd be nice if the people with sub-one second runs would be booted off the Global Leaderboard. I'm by no means Top Spot material, but it would be nice to compete fairly.

You cheated not only the game, but yourself.

You didn't grow.
You didn't improve.
You took a shortcut and gained nothing.

You experienced a hollow victory.
Nothing was risked and nothing was gained.

It's sad that you don't know the difference.

Their lives are so pathetic they're not interested in actually being good at the game, or even winning. They don't care about those things, they care about being annoying and just making sure legit players don't get 1st place. It's an "If I can't have it nobody can" mindset, and it's pathetically weak. Doesn't matter to them that they look stupid, they're not self-aware even if they act like they are.

+ for clearing the leaderboard from cheaters

Im a top ranker and agree with this. Some of my times could be first-to-tenth place if not for them

This is why speedrun sites exist, and speedrun communities such as Neon White Reddit. The best the devs could do is set up a check system to see if people cheat. As someone with a vac ban, yes a vac ban type system would help with this.

If you cheat you should be put on a temp ban by the server or a perma ban on said server system. To be honest said ban checking system isn't hard to do. A server side marker would stop this from happening, the only issue would be people buying the game, playing it, once they get banned then refunding it.

However you could set up a timer for when the ban hammer system triggers, causing a bunch of players to lose access right away in one fallow swoop, as thus allowing the cheater to think they, "gotten away" with it for a short while until they're hit with this.

Remember, hacking isn't just limited to digital spaces; sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. However money wise I don't think the devs would want to put too much of a time sink into it. I remember that one guy who made the mario royale thing was able to bypass some hacks/ cheaters.

Any client side checking for cheating won't work, however server side checking will.

I'm also by no means top-notch but I whole-heartedly agree. It's annoying not knowing what vague spot I may actually stand in.

I mean someone could create a cat on speedrun.com and mod it; AI mods or in this case once in a while devs fix the issue isn't a solution. Were just going to need a strong community around this game.

If it was really that easy to fix cheaters on leaderboards then we wouldn't be in a situation where every leaderboard to ever exist has been cheated. I find it hard to believe not a single developer has cared throughout leaderboard history. It's really just too difficult to fix for a single player game where there's no actual servers for the developers to receive data to check it and even then there will be cheaters/exploiters anyways.

Maybe instead of worrying about the unfixable, compare yourself to the last legit score on the list of players and use that as a #1 reference.

They literally just need to delete a couple of rows in a database and then ban certain user ids from being allowed to submit additional times. What are you talking about.

Most people don't code; likewise I wouldn't be surprised if the people in the thread would encourage anti-cheat systems. (the anti-cheat system is a can of worms in of itself).

I've never seen a leaderboard that remained clean and not cheated in my entire life. That's what I base my idea around. There has to be something about the leaderboards that makes it impossible to stop cheating.

Just an FYI that this isn't something that's required. Although i'm sure lines should be deleted, anybody that cheats will no longer have the ability to submit further times to the leaderboard. You literally get a message stating ''Banned from leaderboards''

Knowing people I wouldn't be surprised if people started buying more copies of the game to keep on cheating. I remember for Overwatch one cheater spent over 200 dollars, and kept cheating every time they got banned. And before you ask; yes, I know someone who cheated in Overwatch, and spent more money than that.

I get the overwatch thing, but for Neon White, i personally can't see it. I understand it's a fairly cheap game and it's very fun to play, but it's not that big of a game in terms of overall popularity amongst other speedrunning style games. I think on steam its had about 192000 sales..Not sure about switch.

Are you kidding me? If I got times banned from the leader board I know I would! Though that's me personally.

I mean would it be hard for a modder to fix it to allow spoofing so you can upload a score anyways? Would the code that disallows people from uploading be local also? If so, it's even easier to deal with that limitation.
