If you cheat you should be put on a temp ban by the server or a perma ban on said server system. To be honest said ban checking system isn't hard to do. A server side marker would stop this from happening, the only issue would be people buying the game, playing it, once they get banned then refunding it.
However you could set up a timer for when the ban hammer system triggers, causing a bunch of players to lose access right away in one fallow swoop, as thus allowing the cheater to think they, "gotten away" with it for a short while until they're hit with this.
Remember, hacking isn't just limited to digital spaces; sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. However money wise I don't think the devs would want to put too much of a time sink into it. I remember that one guy who made the mario royale thing was able to bypass some hacks/ cheaters.
Any client side checking for cheating won't work, however server side checking will.
Maybe instead of worrying about the unfixable, compare yourself to the last legit score on the list of players and use that as a #1 reference.
Just an FYI that this isn't something that's required. Although i'm sure lines should be deleted, anybody that cheats will no longer have the ability to submit further times to the leaderboard. You literally get a message stating ''Banned from leaderboards''
