how to climb trees more effectively?

Everytime I try to climb tries it either knocks me back from them or doesn't bring me up, I can climb the wall jump wall easily but trees are just hard for some reason. Kinda wish you could just grab it using the grip button.

sometimes you just gotta hope for the best. usually, I try to grab almost the back of the tree, reaching a little further back. As you progress, (considering there are no branches) you want to basically pull toward the tree while also getting some height. getting near the top is when you can climb from the sides more. When you're at the top, instead of turning to adjust, which can sometimes fling you off, slowly turn while stopping frequently, to use your other hand to almost push yourself on the sides. It's a lot harder to explain rather than personally show, but I hope that helped / cleared anything up

hug the tree, and propel yourself upward while holding on between bursts

Hug both sides and move your arms directly down. Pressing the buttons doesn't increase grip. Practice with skinnier trees and the walls.
