English units instead of metric
I bought this over the weekend. Is there a way to have the info on the lower left of the screen, speed, altitude, etc... be displayed in English units and not metric? I see my speed as 140 forgetting it is in KMH not MPH.

Also, being a noob, how do you stall when you are going fast, like 300+? I am flying then plane becomes uncontrollable, I look over to the right side of the screen and it says "stall".

thanks

"Set a key for toggle speed bar." - Got that from the SimHQ forums.

Some aircraft can be rather ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and give next to no warning before stalling. Be more gentle on the stick.

thanks. I am still getting used to the idea of "I am good, I am good", then the next second, out of the blue, I get shot and died. I am learning the hard way to be more observant and patient.

I will try the toggle speed bar.

Also, when keeping an eye on cockpit instruments, remember what aircraft you're flying. For example, German planes use metric instrumentation.

Regarding stalling, low airspeed is not the only cause of stalls. Even when going fast, pulling too drastic moves causes stalling when separation of airflow over the wing occurs. As mentioned above, different planes behave differently. Some stall hardly ever when handled within reasonable limits (Bf-109 for example), while some stall more easily. Also, with some planes you can feel well ahead when you're approaching a stall, while some give hardly any warning signs (e.g. Fw-190 "snaps" into stall quite abruptly).

thanks EST. I was playing a career as the American fighters. After a LOT of trial and error and near suicidal depression, I was able to finish that career. I am now playing a career as a German BF-109 fighting the Russians. Man what a difference! The 109's are so forgiving it is almost like cheating. I still do stupid stuff and get shot down, but not like when i was flying the American planes which had virtually no room for error.

Now I can enjoy the game, learn how to fly better, then work my way up to other planes.

A tiny bit of advice that lasts roughly until mid 1943 and might save your virtual life. If a Soviet fighter gets on your six forget about acrobatics, just roll, dive and extend.
