Il2 1946 Not launching

Hi! I have this problem, for a long time now. I used to play it perfectly before, but all of a sudden, now when I try to open the game I get a pop up: Steam is opening the game, for about 2 seconds, and then disappeared, and that's it. It never opens. Before, it always opened with no problem. I deleted the game and downloaded it again from Steam, and same problem. I have Win10

I have the exact same problem. I have Win 10 and all of a sudden it won't launch, and I have been playing this game for over 15 yrs. I believe it had something to do with the last update.

I deleted the config files conf.ini and bldconf.ini. It started and I configured new settings.

hey i got this problem, too. i tried turning off DEP but it didnt help. i deleted the config files conf.ini and bldconf.ini tried to start but this didnt help, too.

i played it yesterday totally normal, today i tried to play again, it started, wanted to change display settings, it crashed and since then it wont start again, reinstalled it, didnt help aswell... pls maybe someone can help. im running on win10

My non-Steam install is dead on one machine but it works fine on the other. Strange.

I also tried adding exceptions to DEP, but after adding it didn't change anything.
Please someone help me, I don't want to give up this game

I just fixed my DVD installed version by changing the render mode to OpenGlide. (Somehow it got set on DX mode.)

I have in my main game folder a utility named il2setup that lets me do this; but I've read that Steam users do no have this utility. If you do not, try locating the Conf file in your game's main folder. Click on it to open it and then copy/paste to change these blocks, I think that should fix it for you:

Maybe a Pacific theater. F4U F4F A6M zero. Torpedos dive bombs. carrier groups. Just sayin'. Lots of $$$ to be made on that one, but they have to disable 1946 first.

They aren't disabling your game to update it. The game studio that made 1946 closed down over a decade ago. The official mod team Team Daidalos has been keeping 1946 alive with patches:
