Planes missing from IL 2 download

I just purchased and downloaded IL 2 1946. Many aircraft are missing such as the ones shown on the promo screen: German Experimental VTOL, etc. How do I get these?

Open the quick mission builder and change the aircraft A20C to Heinkel Lerche III B-2, 1946 ;-)

also alot of planes require mods you need to download.

Re the need for mods. I didn't realize this was necessary when I was convinced to purchase the game. There are many planes listed in the program; but they do not show up anywhere in the gameplay.
