NEWBIE TO JOYSTICKS / LOGITECH 3D EXTREME PRO
Hello, I am totally new into joystick concepts and controls, and i don't even know what setting i am supposed to set up like firing, throttling, rudder and different views from different sides such as behind and outside of the airplane from game settings.

I got the logitech driver downloaded as told in other topics, but it did not configure every single setting for me.

Any suggestions? Thanks

you wont bind most of the controls here, but the ones you need to bind are roll, yaw, pitch, and throttle.

pitch points the nose up or down, yaw turns the plane left or right, roll will roll the plane left or right, throttle is, throttle.

so just click the control you want to bind, then push the stick in the right direction. example - select pitch and push the stick forwards or backwards, then pitch will be fully set up, for pitrch up and pitch down.

if the controls are backwards tho, just push the stick in the opposite direction when setting it.

now scroll higher up for buttons. i dont exactly remember what all the controls are called, but what you need to bind:

trim for yaw, roll, pitch - for example, yaw trim will set where the rudder is pointing when you arent pushing any of the controls. after you take off the plane might be slowly turning to the right, so you would turn the rudder trim to the left to counteract it. and not all planes have trim.

landing gear and manual gear. most planes have it where you press the landing gear button and the gear will automatically come up or down. but some planes have manual gear, where you just have to tap the manual gear button until the gear is fully up or down.

engine - i think "i" is default. just turns the plane engine on or off.

radiator - will open or close your radiator. closed = faster (less drag) open = better cooling.

flaps - you can set one button to extend flaps, and one to close them. theres 4 modes for flaps: closed, combat, takeoff, landing. press the extend button once, and it will go to combat, press it again and it will go to takeoff, etc. press the close button and it will go the other way.

prop pitch - it changes the angle of the blades of the propeller. higher makes them bite more air, lower makes them bite less. so basically, higher will make you go faster, but setting it lower will really help keep the engine cooler. i always keep it at 100% in combat and use throttle to control my speed, then set it lower when cruising.

weapons - i think they are called "weapon 1, weapon 2" etc. i dont remember what each weapon number means, but one is for machine guns, one is for cannons, and one is for rockets or bombs.

view - theres different ways you can set the view, i dont remember all of them but it should be self explanatory

and i think its called normal and wide view, you can switch between them to get a better view. i keep it on wide view and use normal view as a zoom.

and f1 will change view to your cockpit, f2 will be outside your plane, and f3 will be a fly by. shift f2 will change to a view of another plane i think.

i think thats it. you can set allot of the button settings on an axis if you want, it just depends what you want.

1- thanks a lot for the detailed explanation, so I can also use my keyboard even though the joystick is activated then?

2- All numbered buttons on my joystick are occupied by weapons, nothing left for other settings

3- I did adjust yaw and pitch, but rolling ( aileron) requires another axis ( z) which does not exist on my joystick so I adjusted left and right arrows on the keyboard.

4- I don't understand concepts of trim, flaps and power. Don't know how to activate and when to use them. Besides that on the middle of joystick there is a tiny ball that shows arrows for different directions, could not adjust it for something as well.

1. ya you can assign some buttons to keyboard and some to joystick.

2. so maybe you should just use your keyboard for stuff you wont use often like landing gear

3. i just looked up your joystick, it should be able to twist? if it can it might just be better to use that for yaw or whichever control you want.

4. there should be a "flaps up" and a flaps down" setting in the controls. (i might have the exact name wrong) they are just little flaps that come out of the plane to change the aerodynamics. when the flaps are fully up, they arent sticking out of the plane at all. when they are fully down, they are sticking out as much as they can.

there are 4 stages the flaps can be in:

fully up
combat
takeoff
landing (fully down)

the flaps start fully up. when you press the "flaps down" button, their stage moves down on the list. so if you press it, they will move down to combat. press it again, it will go to takeoff. press it again, it will move to landing. and flaps up will just move through the stages backwards.

so usually youll keep the flaps fully up, as the more they are extended, the more drag you will have, and the slower you will go.

combat flaps can slow you down and make you turn faster

and you should use take off flaps for taking off, then raise them once you take off

and landing flaps can get the plane to point upwards while going down, which is how you land.

theres trim for yaw, pitch, and roll. setting the roll trim all the way to the right would have the same effect as using your controls to roll all the way to the right. and once you set it, it stays at that setting.

in the controls settings, there should be 2 settings for each trim. so they will be a roll+ and a roll-. one will set the roll trim farther to the right, one will set it farther to the left.

you really just use it to keep the plane flying straight. if the plane is rolling to the left slightly, you can just set the trim farther to the right to keep it straight, instead of having to hold your joystick to the right all the time.

power - you mean throttle? its just how much engine power your using. more will make you go faster, less will make you go slower.

if you scroll down to where the axis controls are, you can set it there. that slider on your joystick would be good for throttle, just select the throttle axis setting and move it it one way.

then if its backwards, just set it again but move the slider in the other way.

but if you want to use buttons to control throttle instead, then scroll up and there will be a setting that should look something like "throttle+" and throttle-". then you can just set buttons to increase/decrease the throttle.

not sure about the ball on your joystick, but if its an axis, you wont be able to set it to any button controls. and if its a button, you wont be able to set it for any axis controls.

ok thank you for all those clarifications.

By that ball at the middle I meant this , I could not assign something for this accordingly as I don't know what it is.

And again, moving the stick left and right I adjusted yaw. Moving the stick backwards and forward adjusts my altitude, so I don't have any option left for roll ( aileron). That's what I meant and I marked arrows on the keyboard for rolling now

oh, just assign it to whatever you want. mine has something like it and i use it to look around.
