How to stop AI building Colony ships
my AI keeps building colony ships. and even more annoying at planets i would not build at .

how do i stop the ai reserving cash for building colony ships?

my other problem is that i have lots of worlds i have earmarked for outpost or colony. around 20. so i cant just want to let the AI do its thing as i want to build colony ships where i want to build them and load my empire race from home planet to colonise as its the only one that has abundance of pop. but Ai will build where it wants and collect pop it wants and ruins my plans.
essentially a setting that stops the AI from building colony ships full stop is needed please.
I don't have any save games documenting it, but I do recall seeing my automated advisor suggestions to build a CLN ship at one or two points where I had NOT told it to colonize any other world.

If memory serves me right, I had a spare colony ship that had been turned away by a planet I was "courting" with diplomacy. Because of a recent gift, the AI thought it could colonize, but by the time it got there, the gift benefits had faded, there was no longer a 100% chance of success, and I failed my roll.

The good news is that (as the latest patch proclaims) it stopped trying to repeatedly colonize an unwelcoming world, which would have sent my Relationship with them into a death spiral.
After that, the game had NO interest in repurposing that colony ship or taking the population back to its source planet and dropping it off so I could colonize somewhere else with another race. I could have fixed it manually, but didn't want to hassle with spending the time necessary to do all that.

Sadly, I don't have a save game for this instance, but I'll keep my eyes open for similar situations going forward.

By "earmarked" you mean you clicked the outpost button in the list i guess? That's not earmarking, that is outright telling the AI "go and build the oputpost NOW". This results in the AI building a colony ship if it does not have one under it's control.

If you want the AI to never build colony ships, do not click the colonize/outpost buttons in the planet list (or at least make sure first that there already is a colony ship under AI control it can use).

You can still colonize planets manually by selecting a colony ship, then rightclicking the planet and choosing "colonize" from the menu.

If you do colonization manually (and i think you should, it does not happen THAT often), then first send the colony ship to the target independent colony ("go there", not "colonize"), once it arrives give the independents a gift, *then* give the colonize order.
