Start on EARTH and Sol System as Humans
I hope you give us the ability/feature to start on Earth as home planet inside the Sol System, maybe even some of the closest stars are there too like Alpha Centauri, etc.

One of my go-to RP sessions in space games is to play as Humans on Earth in the Solar System. and one of the main turnoffs I have in these space games is the lack of Sol System to start with.

DW1, I had to use the map editor to make a star system that roughly resembles our solar system and it was a pain in the ass.

I was surprised yesterday on DW U that my Human start was in Sol System - wasn't an exact match of course but it was cool that it was Sol System. Can't Wait for DW 2

The backstory of the Distant Worlds universe is the reason why you don't start in the Sol system. All of the species have been to the stars before and no species start on their birth of origin planet. We don't even know is Sol is the birth of the human race in Distant Worlds either... I think... don't remember the story of that from DW Universe.

Well... you could want to build your own story and only allow humans to start at Sol and no other humans at independent systems for example. Not using the human story line either... it would not be an unreasonable variant for playing the humans to offer though.

The fact that Distant Worlds, which would be uniquely suited for a generic setting that allows for more random and custom species, uses an original setting with a pre-set backstory is virtually my only gripe with these games. Not a big one, of course, but I agree, starts like Sol humans would really be amazing.

Using the in-game editor you could absolutely re-create our solar system as your starting system. With that said, the default storyline does include the possibility of finding the ancient home system of the humans, which may look somewhat familiar.

Good enough for me, however there are always people who insist on having the game the way they want it.

There is none... if you want to play as humans in Sol you have to disable race events and use the editor to build the Sol system as you start the game.

Story related reason you'll never normally start on Earth

According to the story, Earth's human population was wiped out by the Shakturi Axis.

Maybe it'll be DLC, he said unironically.

At Galaxy generation on the last page you can select to turn off species events. At that point it does play like a generic space sim without a preset story line. Although I do think it would be cool to really customize our races, starting conditions, and Galaxy attributes a bit more like Stellaris does.
