Disabled all automation and started a game with a harsh homeworld. Every coin mattered, and i could see the effect of my actions. Crashs-and-burn result of course. Started a new game with same settings, and tried to do better based on what happened the first time. Failed a bit less hard. Started again and again, until i understood by experimentation what's a good idea and what's not.
Then i read that guide again. Made more sense the second time. Slowly got to a point where i could get from a harsh start to a somewhat acceptable economy.
Then i started playing on a normal homeworld, and the game became a breeze :P

However, I read everything in the Wiki, the tutorials, and all the guides before researching jump drives. Now that the game itself has more detailed tooltips, I think it should be easier to understand without guides.
Higher populations is probable the 1st one. Then bigger freighters and passengers and ship speed annd... you get it.
Yea and Im in for Das too! or in this case 3rd. heheh I still refeer to his vid all the time.!
If you ever watch his Twitch channel he can be meticulous explaining what he's doing. They're like an online university.
Very slowly
No automation at slowest speed from a pre-warp start with AI set to only suggest
Then read all the tool tips and the Galactopedia... learning the UI is fundamental
Also for DWU I watched & listened to Larry Monte's Lets Plays on Youtube
