I'm not quite certain, but my understanding from the things Erik said in the stream was a bit different:
You don't need to discover/research ALL of these structures to get the bonus(es) - you only have to be the first one regarding each of them, because the other AI-races are able to do this, too, and if they trigger the event first, it will be disabled for the other races (like many other events, too).
(In fact I think what you asked wouldn't be possible anyway (or at least depending on heavy luck), because you never would know if other races had already discovered/researched one of the vaults before you (because they might be completely out of your reach - depending on your game-start settings) - and all your further efforts in rushing the research, etc. would be in vain...
Thanks, frankycl. So I had better go ahead and research those techs since I found at least one of those vaults in my space. :)
I had a similar question last week. The Ancient Knowledge storyline, or event, or whatever it is, happened in the game, with the prompt, you should rush to research this technology, yada yada yada.............Hmmmm.........WHY ?
So i searched the Steam forum to try and find out what it is, what it does, and found you had posted the same question on 15 July. Zero replies.
So does anybody know for sure what it does ??
Thats a least two of us who'd like to know.
I feel the game should be better at explaining its concepts, i've racked up a couple hundred hours by now, i enjoy the game, but i still find myself researching stuff, that i dont really know what it does.
I dont like to whinge, but the Galactopedia isnt much use, it has No Search, so unless you know what category to look under you cant find anything. Hoping that will get some TLC in a future update. Links from the Research Screen tech-item direct into the Galactopedia focused on the correct item would be a good start.
Hello Zippy. I watched the stream, though it's on Twitch and not YT so no way to go back and watch again when encountering something new. You have some skills when it comes to the forum searches, too.
My guess is that it's a WIP and future betas will have a more fleshed-out explanation. Small dev team and priorities, from what I've seen. Thankfully there are players on this forum who are also modders. They dig into the code and come up with answers that us players can't find in the game yet, or haven't discovered through trial and error. Best of luck to you! Hopefully we have a beta this week and maybe more info as well.
Ok, I've looked into the files for you two (and you can do the same if you like - just open "GameEvents_Ancient _Guardian_Vaults.xml" and additionally look for the regarded research in the "ResearchProjectDefinitions.xml"
Those events are divided into ones the Quameno could trigger OR all other races, but with many of them it's paramount to trigger them first, because the regarding events then will be disabled for ALL other possible encounters. And since they are (mostly) only to be triggered successively and need the regarding research to find the next one (/ to be able to trigger the next) it's best to hurry with the whole process, but you don't need to research them all to get the one and only final "collectors-bonus".
*Extra Helpful" Thanks, frankycl!
So if the message you get after research is a success message, it will give you a nice artifact
Wonderful news! Thank you very much!
Thanks for looking.
I was playing as Quameno, so that explains why it showed up early for them. It just seemed like such a lot of Research Time to invest into a tech that had no clear goal. And there is always plenty of other things that seem more important to research first.
I had 4 possible lines of research show up, i did the first two, nothing much seemed to happen, so i didnt bother anymore.
Maybe next time it shows up i'll give it a longer go instead of ignoring it.
I am hoping you may be able to help me find a solution to this. I believe the Return of Shakturi would be tied into this. I hope they return because the game is otherwise quite boring and easy to beat and it could use some more action.
PS: I also adopted the Way of the Ancients form of government, could this be the cause?
BUT for some reason I got 0 Victory Points toward the Quameno Special Racial Victory Conditions. Which I do not understand.
While in my previous Quameno Game I only researched 2 pairs of the Tier 1 Guardian Techs and got 2 Artifacts, BUT I did get Victory Points for the Quameno Special Racial Victory condition..

Think of the ancient sites as an Easter egg hunt in which the first person to find the location of the egg, and then research the correct tech to open the door gets the egg. Once the egg is gone, then it's gone and the site is opened, thus nothing to research and no research options given for the second person to find the "completed site."
There's no way I know of for you to get the tech at this point in the game. Researching better hyperdrives and better scanning tech early game along with a large number of exploration ships is the way to get the goodies first. I build 25 exploration ships as soon as I hit the second hyperdrive tech taking my ships to 200k and then another five (for a total of 30) once I hit the third tier at 400k. Researching the second tier of exploration tech is crucial early game since it helps you find what you have invested so many resources to locate. Good luck.
