Distant Worlds 2

Distant Worlds 2

PC race starting goodies?
Ackdarians get a free starting spaceport, and humans soon get a chance to buy the Ghost Fleet. What do other races get?

Teekans get 1 more colony but with great support cost initially. Haakonish get advanced scout which is very good.
Teekan get a second +20ish colony (lots of damage that goes away in time) in home-system... basically nukes your state economy for 10 years when you need it the most (theoretically you could postpone this to a better time by manually controlling your explorers).

Zenox get a pirate faction with a +10 diplomacy boost if you choose the right options (good for starting a espionage chain). Also +20% all research on homeworld a bit later O_O?

Haakonish get a pirate faction that sells them Fast Mining, an ancient T2 exploration ship to repair and a couple of other good deals (this one really goes through your starting funds).

Boskara nothing?

Mortalen haven't checked yet.
I (as a Human Player) actually got the Ghost Fleet for free, after many attempts to get the Ghost Fleet to work had failed.

In some earlier games as the Ackdarians, I could never get the Ancient Space Port, It would always disappear on me, whenever I approached it with any ship. Maybe that has been fixed.

Getting the 4 Ghost Fleet Pirate ships enabled me to fight the Pirates and sometimes capture a ship from them instead of paying Protection to them.

This saves the cost of the Protection Treaties (1500 per year per Treaty) at the maintenance costs of the warships you get and capture, and later build to fight the Pirates.
Just a note that the Ackdarian space port starts as the second size upgrade with medical bay 2, entertainment 2, research 2, and a bunch of weapons a few tiers up. This lets you delay researching bigger space ports and medical/entertainment for quite a while if you avoid upgrading it - generally you won't need to research those until you get a second colony.
Boskarans are the meanies. They need no goodies. Hmm. Mebbe that is why the ARE the meanies.
i dont know.. boskarans in my games are always tiny with 1 colony or maximum 2. i had to buff them in the game starting settings

That's probably to your colony abundance settings. Boskarans got already hard time at ABUDANT, so normal and lower abudance will shred them even more. It's due to their preference to live on volcanic planets. They don't have enough colonization bonuses to compensate for awful quality of these worlds. When Boskarans don't start in viccinity of independent worlds or weak military race like Teekans, don't expect them to expand and cast a shadow upon a galaxy.
Started new game as Ackdarian. Cost to build first research base was zero cash.
Mortalen any idea ?

I am playing a game with Mortalen. Nothing that I remember that was very important or any special event.

The starting system does have another large rocky planet with good suitability. Max pop of 17+ billion. And two pirate factions in neighboring systems. That have bases around those 99% Caslon planets.

I was paying protection but those pirates never seemed to develop. And some quick research and build of a basic fleet of escort and frigates was enough to take the bases and claim that gas.

Don't know if that is an intended bonus or just the luck of how this galaxy generated.

Looking at the files, it seems there might be one guaranteed independent nearby... and conquering it triggers an event chain.
Possibly a nearby slave world to conquer as well.
Mmmm... found a better method, Start a game with no enemies and race-events only, then zoom out with game editor on:

Mortalen:
Home Ruin Generation on home system - I think this is the same for every race... guaranteed ruins with +science on nearest planetoid.
Destroyed Boskara Troop Transport and Damaged Mortalen Fortress on 2 nearby systems.
There's also a bunch of interesting looking stuff on 4 different systems, but you'll probably need a gerax to reach those.
Boskara:
Home Ruin Generation on home system;
2 nearby systems with events.
Lots of stuff on the other side of the galaxy... how are you even supposed to reach those?

Ok yes, I did find that destroyed troop transport. The planet is horrible. Had 30% damage and even after decades for that damage to repair. The suitability is still only at 16%. So I have never colonized it.

Regarding the independents. I have peacefully colonized them because they were Securan and Kiadan. They live together with Mortalen pretty well. So I didn't invade them and peacefully colonized them instead.
