Nebula Exploration
Is it not guaranteed that when an exploration ship enters a nebula the nebula gets identified? I've been trying to see if identifying a nebula allows me to colonize the planets within, but the nebula is still gray after sending an exploration ship.

I know entering one usually slows you down, but I dont know if there's a multiplier that affects colonization range. I tried this out with a Tech 7 start and sometimes the nebula gets identified, sometimes it doesn't. Has anyone managed to colonize a nebula world yet, other than starting in one?

One kind counts as natural barrier against colonysation range playing humans i had several grasland planets in nebula colonysed that came with a quest to track down earth/terra.

Interestingly enough, I did find Sol. But I think Im not far enough into exploring story events to have my civilization even acknowledge it's there.

Edit: It's also inside a nebula that I managed to identify.

Nebula have different types. The grey ones are the common/ordinary nebula. Other kinds I believe are only identified if the exploration ship flies into them, but I believe the autoexplore automatically ignored nebula that it cannot safely fly into, such as the purple and green ones that require a certain level of armor tech and ion defense to fly into without the ship being damaged/shut down or destroyed.

Same as how explorers on autoexplore will ignore asteroids without any resources on them automatically, leaving them unexplored till last when there is nothing else in range left for them to explore.

Is there a colonization range multiplier on nebulae? I have my game set to 200m colonization range with 2k stars in a 10x10 plane. I have a colony that's at least within colonization range of the nebula planet and the target planet is suitable for human colonization. Yet for some reason, I cant colonize planets within a nebula.

I did manage to observe a very unfortunate AI spawn within an ion storm, keeping them there indefinitely.

I'm not 100% sure, but I am fairly certain after a little bit of testing that the appear to have some form of multiplier apply

tech 7 start, 200m range. did this about 4-6 times, and each time I let it run for about half an hour or less to find some nebulas and Ion storms. I was unable to colonize inside any of them

tech 7 start with 800m, and I'm able to find SOME nebula's that I can colonize next to and get inside, if its close enough. with no range, I don't have any issues with colonization

i'm not sure HOW it affects this, but being as this is the only change between the tests, there must be some affect from it, if its not a completely random bug showing up in my limited testing pool :P

I guess Ill put my save in the back burner until this gets addressed. I want to be able to colonize those nebula worlds to reach a +30 sustain world on the other side. I dont want to have to have to prep a war run on a bunch of frog people to circle around this nebula wall.

I dont understand how this is even uncolonizable.

From how I believe it seems to work, the only thing that makes sense is the size of the nebula. As this is a much smaller nebula, the multiplier to colonization range is not large enough to close it off, while I'd be willing to bet the much larger nebula will remain uncolonizable for the foreseeable future (note i have not played much since my first playthrough, and subsequent testing, so this may have been addressed or fixed by this time, or it may remain an issue)

Apparently many of you have missed that there is a Map option to show the Clouds in color coded form. The bottom right hand of the game Map, 4th Icon from the left that looks like a Spiral Galaxy in the 2nd or bottom row.

There are two rows (10 in each row) of Map Icons/options on the bottom right to change what and how things are displayed on the main Galaxy Map. You should explore those options and start using them. They are very useful.

Left click on that Spiral Galaxy Icon and the Main Map will show ALL of the Clouds, color coded
Orange = Galactic Storm
Purple = Ion Storm
Green = Gravitic Storm
Yellow = Radiation Zone

See screenshot below for an example
