ships not using skip drive?
I'm pretty new to this game and really enjoying it! I've restarted the game a few times now just to get a handle on everything and I've noticed that sometimes after making the skip drive, ships just won't use it. In my current game with the Boskara, a construction ship that has been retrofitted with a skip drive will fly the long way to build a research station instead of using the skip drive. I've clicked on the ship and looked at the design they're using, it shows they have one installed too. any idea why that would be?

Does the ship have enough power to operate the drive?

The game might be thinking the ship is too close to use it. In those cases I try to move a bit further but still closer than where the ship is. If it's still not jumping I just jump away a bit and jump exacly where I want them to go.

yep, the ship does have enough power. I told it to build a station elsewhere and it used it's skip drive to jump. for some reason, it just wouldn't do it on the closest planet to the home moon. I made another construction ship and it did jump to where the other ship didn't want to though. really weird. This has happened a few times now. I've noticed it on the civilian ships too. I have all the ship designs on auto except for ships I plan to use for fighting.

I have the same issue. Explorer ship just upgraded with skip drive, made sure there is enough power for full speed 10K - will not use skip drive to jump to other planet in-system. Just chugs along on slow regular drives. Very different behavior from DW:U

Update: I retired that ship, and built another - this one jumps to the nearest planet! Hypothesis - ships upgraded from non-hyperdrive to hyperdrive may not be properly jumping in system.

You need to set the ship to automate retrofitting. This happens when you start a game with the lowest tech and zero automation and research the skip drive the 1st time.

Alternatively you can manually retrofit at any planet/spaceport.

This happens to me every game for some civilian ships in my home system.

For some reason every game 10 civilian ships decide not to upgrade and just trudge along in the home system lol. Whenever I notice it, I just scrap them.

some insystem trips are too short to use Hyper Drives, and instead the ships will go directly through space/ Such as between a HW moon of a Gas Giant and a Mining Station in orbit of the Gas Giant, or inh orbit of other Moons of the same Gas Giant.
It can happen with higher Tech Hyper Drives as well.
