this is SP game and getting "relic" ships is perfectly okay, it's just like getting multiple "good" planets or multiple high grade research station locations.

AI also can get relic ships and this can be really frustrating.

and you recive massiv techboost aswell.... perfect is the opposite

I dont have problems with these ships, yeah they are nasty, but defetable + i just board them and takem them for me!

it is way to ez .. that is my point ^^

Yeah, superweapons at the start break the game either for you or against you. I wish I could turn them off or they were just balanced better to be in ion nebulae and stuff.

Thats RNG for you. I had a game where the AI got some big ships early and kicked my ass.

If you want, you can always disassemble the ships you capture for the research points instead of keeping them in your fleet - that's always an option. Though you'll get boosts in your tech, at least then your fleet strength wouldn't be lopsided.

IMO I like the abandoned ship debris fields - it adds a sort of "gold rush" experience where you'd feel compelled to either redirect constructor ships to capture as many of the ships as possible or - if the area is contested - blow up the ships on the spot so nobody can claim them.

I do agree, however, that it would be nice to have a toggle when creating a new game to enable or disable this sort of element.

i wouldnt mind if there was more work for these debris fields, like forcing their spawns to be in ion storms and other nebula or around planets that are defended by allot of monsters.

There was one time I found a debris field which had a pirate space station situated in the middle of it all - a station which wasn't part of any particular pirate faction, just a hostile space station which needed to be destroyed before being able to claim the ships.

see that at least makes it so theres alittle cost and reward at least, I know in one of my games i had a salvage yard station in my home system, it felt great to finally be able to take it to get the ships and debris there (sadly all the ships were civilian ships tho and cant retire those :p )

Another option would be to spawn such debris fields not near planets but in the middle of nowhere, potentially away from likely hyperlane paths between systems - that way you would need decently advanced radars to detect them. This would, however, make finding debris fields more of a mid-game find, I think, which means the ships should be bumped up considerably in power and features.

Related to this: I do feel like although the ships we find today can give a group considerable power in the beginning, it is just a matter of time before the recovered ships are themselves outclassed. So it's a give-and-take regarding their presence.

Perhaps the problem is risk-reward. Very few are booby-traps or would come alive just to attack you (I think only one base I repaired did it).

I haven't found one in my current campaign yet but then, I've switched off the story events. Perhaps the debris field is an event?

i think they are fine , they are randomly placed at galaxy generation and coupled with random home world placement its just your luck if you can take advantage of them before the AI , but i gotta say the general feeling is they are too powerfull and need tweeked and i would go with that if i had any say in what happens to the game
