AI also can get relic ships and this can be really frustrating.
IMO I like the abandoned ship debris fields - it adds a sort of "gold rush" experience where you'd feel compelled to either redirect constructor ships to capture as many of the ships as possible or - if the area is contested - blow up the ships on the spot so nobody can claim them.
I do agree, however, that it would be nice to have a toggle when creating a new game to enable or disable this sort of element.
Related to this: I do feel like although the ships we find today can give a group considerable power in the beginning, it is just a matter of time before the recovered ships are themselves outclassed. So it's a give-and-take regarding their presence.
