I first saw this game in a you tube video about the board game.

I really liked the look of it and was really pleased to see if was being released on Steam.

It is a wonderful adaptation of the board game which is everything I hoped it would be.

Only playable as solitaire - as the Russians - but just a superb game.

Essentially you have to hold the strong hold against waves of German attackers, whilst feeding in reinforcements of men and supplies to keep them in the fight.

First game early turns I thought, ok, fun but its too easy, several turns later, I think I might be able to hang on - followed by - game over - major defeat.

Ok - first game and all that and I clearly was not entirely up to speed on what tactics might work best (do you want more men, or more effective men - trade that off against feeding them and the need to let them rest between fights.

Send sappers into the house - repair the walls or set up mines to try and hold back the oncoming German hordes

Take a look at you tube videos to see if its your sort of thing

For me I think its a great solo wargame at a superb price and I hope they release Castle Itter too

A faithful transposition of the boardgame. UI and controls are basic and not too user-friendly as you would expect of this sort of game. There is a tutorial, but I suggest to at least get used to the rules and gameplay of the BG before you get into this (this is often the case with boardgame to videogame conversions, there is a lot to digest before you get in the flow).

Got the game on day 1, I'm on Mac and it works without a problem, no bugs to speak of after 2 games. Have to admit I'm a bit surprised this is the case, so good job, devs!

Overall I'd say I enjoy the BG more but I'm happy for this version, I know a lot of people out there have been desperately looking for a copy of the game for a while so this is a way for them to enjoy Pavlov's House. If this is you, my suggestion is to buy this without second thoughts.
There are quite a few things that could be done to make the UI and UX better, but all the basics are there and they work fine.

TL;DR:
+It's the BG in digital version. It works without issues. The price is fair.
-Not too user-friendly. Interface could be improved in several ways.

This is the computer version of the solo tabletop boardgame of the same name. It seems to be a faithful reproduction. It's MacOS friendly. If you are new to the game, there is a bit of a learning curve during which you may wish to pull out your hair, but once you get the rules down you can breeze through a game in an hour or so. Four levels of difficulty allow for replay using more complex rules. My one criticism applies to all such computer versions of solo tabletop games: why not design the computer game from the ground up, instead of just copying the solo tabletop game? The tricks needed by the solo tabletop game to imitate an opponent are not needed for computer games, allowing for much greater freedom in game design. In any case, if you like Pavlov's House the tabletop game, you'll like this; if you don't like the tabletop version, then you won't like this game either. Cheers!

Digital version of a solo board game, with all the pros and cons which that brings. It's functional, with minimal visual fluff. That said, you can get a grasp of the mechanics in 2 or 3 plays and then it's a fairly tense game with a lot of meaningful choices to make. Takes me a bit less than an hour to play a game, and within each game there will be multiple feasible strategies to pursue. There's a good balance between being able to do things and not being able to do things, which means it's usually tense, but often satisfying. Would be a decent shout at around a tenner if you're a fan of solo wargames, but for the price it's a bit of a steal! Worth a gamble if you like solo board games.

Fast paced and easy to learn. Really lends itself to both a board game and PC game.

This game inspired me to purchase the physical board game on which it's a digital adaptation of, and I'm glad I did. Having the board in front of me, with all the high quality components that are easier to read, and the big map, makes the game more enjoyable. Plus, you actually roll all the dice results, which is more exciting than watching random numbers appear on the screen. But I don't want to take away any of the game's digital little clone excellence. It plays the game according to the rules, is fast to play and, most importantly, introduced me to the Valiant Defense series by David Thompson. The digital version of Castle Itter is very good as well. Both are some of the best solo war game adaptations out there.

Pro Tip: Watch the 2001 movie, Enemy at the Gates, before playing to get an idea of the setting and mood of the game.

My first review. I had to. I finally played a good implementation of a great board game, so my inspiration led me to give honor to the developer/designer team which faithfully ported the title. David Thompson designed a deeper level State-of-Siege board game back in 2018. I loved it. A SoS (State of Siege) game is a mechanic which players deal with waves of enemies rushing toward their position, ala tower defense, though not as simplistic.

I was fascinated by the three layers of the battlefield intertwined with each other to form a singular defensive structure. It is a balancing act which becomes overwhelming rather quickly, yet if you keep your head, think forward, and deal with the most pressing issues (even if at the moment they don't appear to be in rough shape), you can go deep into the game.

You will lose, though, most of the time and near the end. That tension is what makes it a game you will come back to many times. So close, but a few bad dice rolls or bad decisions, and you'll find yourself overrun.

Not the slickest implementation, but solidly built and logical. Follow the tutorial, read the hints and instructions, and you'll soon be thinking of game related decisions without worrying about bugs, crashes, or distracted with graphics or cut scenes.

A wargame worthy of adding to your digital collection.

I would like to say I own this game and got it to the table a few times. I have limited space at home so I got this game as a means to lower my space requirements. I found this adaptation great with a few issues with the interface but the tutorial is really bad. I mean really really bad. I was able to get through a game but I must say, I got through it because I knew the game before hand. I would recommend new players to this game to watch how to play on YouTube for the board game first. With that said, I think this is a superb design from David Thompson and very easy to play and very fun. I love the tension the phases brings when you set plans and watch them get wrecked. The decision space is not too deep but tough. The game is very straight forward and allows the user to get better with more plays. I will get more play time out of this adaptation. I thought the graphics was just right on my laptop. If you are new to this type of game, please check out the board game tutorials first to see if it right for you but I would recommend this just on the design from a great board game designer.

Excellent implementation of the board game.

Faithful to the board game. Can be played to completion during a lunch hour or less. All the games individually simple game systems combine into a not so simple game to win. Recommended.
